France will exhibit its woven products during the Hue Traditional Craft Festival from April 27 to May 1, the French embassy announced on April 18.

This is the first time France, an honourable guest to the festival, will bring a special garment and textile international exhibition to Vietnam, said Etienne de Gonneville, First Counselor of the French Embassy.

The exhibition is not only a replica of a unique international textile exhibition in Clermont Ferrand, France, where Vietnamese representative, designer Minh Hanh, has showcased her collection, but also one of the key events to mark the 2013 friendship exchange year between France and Vietnam, he said.

France wants to introduce its distinctive quality garments using new weaving technology to Vietnamese people, noted De Gonneville.

The fifth Hue Traditional Craft Festival aims to boost the development of craft villages and tourism services.

Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dang Thanh said the festival will include various activities: an exhibition on Vietnam’s craft villages, Métamorphoses exhibition displaying 80 French woven products, a photography exhibition on Saijo city, Japan, and a seminar on traditional craft villages and tourism.

During the five-day festival, there will be fashion shows featuring collections by Francoise Hoffmann from France, Patis Tesoro from the Philippines, Minh Hanh and Cong Khanh from Vietnam, and other designers from Hong Kong.
