According to Phuong Trang Passenger Bus Joint Stock Company, passengers traveling on 78 bus routes operated by the company will not be charged any fare on New Year’s Day. Additionally, in the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, free rides will also be available from February 16 to 18 (corresponding to the 29th of the last lunar month through the 2nd day of the new lunar year).

Despite the free fare policy, the company affirmed that it would maintain full service frequency and remain committed to providing high-quality transportation to meet the travel demands of residents.

Beyond these 78 routes, other subsidized bus lines managed by various operators across HCMC will also waive fares on January 1.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City operates about 179 bus routes, both subsidized and unsubsidized, with more than 2,300 vehicles in service. During the holiday season, the city’s bus network will be dynamically adjusted to increase or decrease the number of trips based on actual travel demand.

Alongside the buses, the Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien metro line will also be free for all passengers on New Year’s Day. Riders may access free tickets in one of three ways: by scanning their chip-based national ID card at ticket gates; by scanning a QR code generated via the HCMC Metro HURC app; or by obtaining a paper ticket with a QR code at automated kiosks.

In addition to the fare waiver, the metro line will also extend its hours and increase the frequency of service during the holiday. On December 31, it will run 264 trips from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. On January 1, the number of trips will increase to 276, including 20 trains operating between 12:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. to serve revelers heading out to watch fireworks.
