VietNamNet Bridge – To help passers-by and poor workers during hot summer days, some people in HCM City place free ice tea boxes along roads.

 

A free ice tea box on the pavement of Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Road, Binh Thanh District.


At 6 am, Mr. Thanh and his wife prepare a box of ice tea and place it in front

of his house to serve passers-by. Thanh “invests” around VND30,000 ($1.5) for this ice tea box.


Mrs. Thanh does not forget to stick the “free ice tea” plate to the box. She said

at the beginning, people were afraid to drink free tea but now they are familiar with it.

Mrs. Thanh has to fill up the box twice a day.


She also prepares a small basin for passers-by to wash glasses before drinking ice tea.

Mrs. Bay, a vendor, said since she knows about this free ice tea box,

she saves around VND10,000 ($0.5) a day.


A rubbish collector also takes a bottle of ice tea. “Whenever I’m thirsty,

I come here to take water,” he said.
