VietNamNet Bridge – A French painter based in Hoi An - Jean Cabane - now introduces his 31 paintings on Vietnamese themes made on Vietnamese traditional ‘giay do” (rhamnoneuron paper) at the French Cultural Center at 1 Le Hong Phong, Hue city.

Born in France and inspired by his new home of Vietnam, landscapes and countryside portraits are abstracted into modern compositions that evoke the emotion of his adopted homeland. The ink and pigments create a wondrous world of poetry.

Jean Cabane's paintings are done with natural ash obtained from burning bamboo, which is popular in Viet Nam.

The 63-year-old's exhibition, titled Landscapes, Colours Reflecting Culture, comprises 31 works depicting landscapes and cultural vignettes from places he has visited.

Considered a friend by people in central Vietnam, Cabane works with several charities, actively mobilizing support for health care projects for the poor in the provinces of Quang Nam, Da Nang, Thua Thien - Hue, and Quang Tri.

He is also a member of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Da Nang.

He has held exhibitions in major French cities such as Paris, Bordeaux and Nimes.

The exhibition, on at the French Cultural Centre, will run until April 2.

Another French painter, Denis Boywd, also has an exhibition of paintings depicting Vietnamese landscapes in Hue.

Breathtaking Vietnam at the La Residence Hotel seeks to raise funds for local underprivileged people.

Do paper is a paper made from the bark of the Rhamnoneuron balansae, traditionally produced in many villages in Vietnam. It plays an important role in folk art, Dong Ho Painting in particular, because of its durability.
