National Secretary of the French Communist Party Pierre Laurent made this remark during a meeting with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Ha Noi on Friday, April 22.

Laurent expressed his pleasure on visiting Viet Nam for the first time and witnessing the Vietnamese people's multifaceted achievements during their doi moi (renewal) process and national construction and development under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam.

He described the achievements as a great encouragement for the French Communist Party and an important contribution to the cause of communists and revolutionary forces around the world who are struggling for peace, democracy, social progress and socialism.

Laurent expressed a strong wish that the Communist Party and people of Viet Nam would successfully implement the 11th Party Congress Resolution and obtain greater achievements in national construction and development.

He briefed Trong on the situations of his Party and leftists in Europe and gave an assessment of recent developments in France and regions in the world.

Trong, who is also National Assembly Chairman, congratulated Laurent on his election as National Secretary of the French Communist Party and President of the European Left Party and the French Communist Party on its 90th anniversary.

He affirmed that with the success of the 11th Party Congress, the Communist Party and the people of Viet Nam would continue to consistently follow the road of building socialism, striving to successfully implement the goal of making Viet Nam a powerful country with rich people and an equal, democratic and civilised society.

Earlier, a delegation of the Communist Party of Viet Nam led by Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and permanent member of the CPV Central Committee Secretariat, held talks with the French Communist Party delegation.

While in Viet Nam, the French Communist Party delegation paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum and visited his former workplace and home.
