An explosion at the Marcoule nuclear site in the south of France on Monday killed one person and injured four others, local media reported.

Citing local reports, the BFM TV channel said fire broke out in a storage site of nuclear waste at midday, causing one person killed and four injured.

France's nuclear safety watchdog ASN dismissed previous media report of risk of radioactive leak from the exploded site.

Policemen, firefighters and one medical emergency service (SAMU) helicopter have been sent to the site of the explosion, while a security perimeter has been set up around the nuclear site, according to local press.
