French-Portuguese circus to perform in Vietnam

The French-Portuguese circus troupe O Ultimo Momento will perform at the Vietnam Youth Theatre in Hanoi on May 14, according to the French Cultural Centre L’Espace.  

O Ultimo Momento has toured Europe and many nations in Asia, Northern America and Southern Africa. The troupe specialises in acrobatics on Chinese poles and other unique video creations.

It was established in 2004 by Joao Paulo Dos Santos and Guillaume Dutrieux who toured many nations in the world as singer and music composer.

During its stay in Vietnam, O Ultimo Momento will perform the “Ce qui reste” play which originates from Sacks’ short story about an insane man.

MasterChef New Zealand winner shows off cooking skills in Hanoi

Lecturers and students at Hanoi Tourism College (HTC) on May 5 had a chance to enjoy a special dessert prepared by MasterChef New Zealand 2011 winner, Nadia Lim.

While showcasing her culinary skills, Lim also helped them prepare their own dishes.

She said this dessert has a simple recipe and everyone can make it.

She added that cuisine and tourism are closely linked to each other and hoped that with this connectivity, the Vietnamese people will gain a better understanding about New Zealand’s land, people and cuisine.

The exchange between the MasterChef New Zealand winner and Hanoi students of tourism was an activity within the programme to mark the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-New Zealand diplomatic ties.

During her stay in Hanoi and HCM City from May 4-8, Lim will visit Mai Am Ba Chieu, a charity organisation in HCM City to learn about Vietnamese cuisine, attend two TV shows on gastronomy and be a special guest at an event to raise fund for the Blue Dragon Foundation.

Havana exhibition features Vietnamese peacetime development

The Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba recently opened a photo exhibition in Havana reflecting contemporary Vietnam, 40 years since the liberation of the country’s southern region.

More than 100 photos on show illustrate Vietnam’s land and people, economic development, traditional culture and Vietnamese-Cuban relations.

The exhibition, running through to May 15, also showcases Vietnamese handicrafts, musical instruments, traditional customs and special publications on the Spring 1975 Victory.

Addressing guests from the Cuban Foreign Ministry, State agencies, and embassies of Asian countries at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador Duong Minh underlined the significance of the victory that ended the war and heralded a new era of peace and development.

He also noted the serious war consequences and Vietnamese people’s efforts to overcome these aftermaths, while highlighting the country’s economic development.

The diplomat took the chance to thank Cuba for its support to Vietnam’s struggle, adding that his country advocates Cuba’s update of its socio-economic model and believes it will harvest greater accomplishments in its socialist-oriented development.

Film week on President Ho Chi Minh held for teenagers

A film week for teenagers celebrating the life of late President Ho Chi Minh was launched on May 5 in the cultural centre of Ho Chi Minh City’s District 6.

The event is a part of the 2015 “Youth Journey for the Homeland’s Sea and Islands” held from May 6 -17 by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Navy High Commander on the occasion of the 125 th birthday anniversary of the national hero.

The film week is being held across the country, with screenings of films featuring the revolutionary struggle of Vietnam and the life of the late president, namely “Ho Chi Minh: Portrait of a Man”, “Ho Chi Minh in Hong Kong” and “The Legend Makers”, among others.

The event aims to promote national pride in teenagers and encourage them to study and follow late President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example.

Russian centre holds exhibition to mark 70th Victory Day

The Russian Centre of Science and Culture is hosting an art exhibition titled Russia – My Country. The event aims to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Russia's Victory Day (May 9, 1945).

On display are around 30 photos and paintings of Russian landscapes and people by renowned artists including Iuryi Kodak, Irina Egorova, Ksenia Chernykh and Evgenhyi Ivanovich Danilevskyi.

The works introduce the richness of Russia's history, natural beauty and daily life, both past and present.

The exhibition will run until Saturday.
