Robert Yap, president of the Singaporean firm, with many years of experience in digital transformation in transport and logistics, said at a working session with the Ministry of Information and Communications that the shift to e-commerce is a growing trend all over the world. However, even for large corporations, the shift from traditional sale of goods to e-commerce is facing challenges.
In order to promote trade and connection in Southeast Asia, Robert Yap initiated SGConnect initiative and ASLN (ASEAN Sustainable Logistics Network)
YCH has operations in many countries, including Vietnam, employing 1,000 workers. He expressed his willingness to build Vietnam into a modern and sustainable supply center in ASEAN, which can support SMEs (small and medium enterprises) to develop and do big business, or ‘go to the open sea’.
To realize the initiative, YCH plans to build a ‘one-stop’ platform that supports SMEs to organize stalls in a professional, effective and economical manner. The stalls will connect with other popular online sale channels such as Lazada, Shoppee and Amazon.
SMEs, when joining the platform, will receive technical support and consultancy on branding. YCH, with experience in supply chain development, can take the role of forwarding goods to international hubs from which products will be delivered to end users.
In addition, with ‘the one stop’, SMEs will be able to save costs compared to their own stalls on e-commerce platforms.
Vietnam is a large market with 100 million people and 800,000 SMEs which need support to improve their competitiveness on international e-commerce platforms, he said.
When participating in a larger and more competitive international playing field, many SMEs feel bewildered, and therefore, supporting small players join to a larger space is a necessity.
MIC applauded YCH’s aspiration to turn Vietnam into a sustainable and high-technology integrated center in ASEAN and proposed that YCH join forces with local businesses to quickly release demos as soon as possible.
YCH, headquartered in Singapore, established in 1955, provides comprehensive supply chain solutions. It now connects 100 points in 15 countries and employs 6,000 workers.
With 60 years of experience, YCG has become a leading partner managing supply chains in Asia Pacific and serving many global brands.
In Vietnam, YCH teams up with T&T to establish a joint venture – SuperPort Vietnam which builds multi-modal logistics port in an area of 83 hectares in Binh Xuyen district, capitalized at $166 million.
