A funeral service was organised in Ho Chi Minh City on May 3 for the two military pilots, who died after their fighter planes crashed in a training session over the waters of Binh Thuan province two weeks ago.

State President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Le Hong Anh, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh and Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang sent wreaths to show their respect for the deceased.

The two Su-22 jets of Air Division 370 lost contact just a few hours after they took off from Thanh Son Military Airport in Binh Thuan for a training session on April 16.

The body of Deputy Commander of Regiment 937 Le Van Nghia was recovered along with parts of the fallen Su-22 jet, number 5857, in the waters off Binh Thuan’s Phu Quy Island on April 28.

On May 1, the searching force found the body of pilot Nguyen Anh Tu and parts of the fuselage of his Su-22 jet number 5863.
