The talk will be an informal morning (9.30am-12.30pm), where attendees can chat with the artist about her life, her inspiration, her thoughts on the past, present and future of Viet Nam’s art scene and how she sees the history and social influences of Viet Nam through art.

The 73-year-old Khuê, who graduated from the Hanoi Fine Arts College in 1976, is one of Viet Nam’s most influential installation artists. Her work is considered an adventure into the past to understand more about the Vietnamese country and herself.

On Saturday night, FVH will also host a screening of the award-wining movie Dung Dot (Don’t Burn) by director Dang Nhat Minh, one of the most influential Vietnamese filmmakers.

Produced in 2009, the movie is based on the diary of war martyr Dr Dang Thuy Tram. She wrote the diary between 1968 and two days before she died in 1970 while working at a field hospital of the liberation force on the battlefield.

The diary was discovered by a US military officer who kept it for 35 years before returning it to Trâm’s mother in 2005.

The movie premiered at the 19th annual Fukuoka International Film Festival in Japan, winning the audience prize. It also won the Golden Lotus award at the Vietnam Film Festival in 2009 and the Golden Kite Award in 2010.

The movie will be presented with English subtitles, followed by question and answer session with director Minh. The screening will take place from 7:30 to 9:30pm at the Centre for Development of Movie Talent, 51 Tran Hung Dao Street.
