VietNamNet Bridge – Hundreds of customers have angrily accused Doi Nen Gas Station in Dinh Tri District in the northern province of Bac Giang of selling bad-quality gasoline that caused their vehicles to break down or even to catch fire.

At 9 am on March 24, dozens of drivers bringing their broken cars and motorbikes to the gas station to demand compensations for the damages they were suffering.

To calm down the drivers, the shop owner agreed to compensate.

However, since 10 am that day, more people flocked to the station to require an explanation from the owner about the quality of the gas.

Some people said when they were driving their vehicles they heard buzzing sounds from the engines.

Nguyen Thi Hien, a customer, said with disappointment: “On March 23, I had my motorbike filled at the station. But on the following morning, I couldn’t turn on the engine.

After trying hundreds of times, the engine started, but it broke down later.”

Another customer, Nguyen Dat, said he also had difficulty in starting the engines of three motorbikes after they were filled with gas at the station.

“We’re sure the problem wasn’t caused by technical faults but bad-quality gas,” Dat said.

Nguyen Thi Hue, whose house faces the shop, had the same problem with her motorbike and car.

Nguyen Van Bang from Bac Giang’s Lang Giang District, whose truck caught fire 10 days ago, told VnExpress that he suffered the same situation with his truck’s engine before the truck caught fire.

The shop owner had recorded information and plate numbers of the customers and promised to contact them soon.

Giap Van Truong, chief police of Dinh Tri District, confirmed with Tuoi Tre that hundreds of people besieged the shop to demand compensations.

“Several people had their bikes repaired but the repairmen said they didn’t find any technical fault. After the drivers replaced old gasoline with new fuel, they successfully started the engines,” Truong said.

The province’s market management department has obtained samples of the suspected gasoline for testing and the gas station has been suspended from operation pending investigations.
