VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Science and Technology will conduct a nationwide inspection of gasoline quality from June to August.
The Ministry’s chief inspector, Mr. Tran Minh Dung, says that the inspection will focus on the implementation of the law on measurement, quality and industrial property at petrol producing and trading organizations.

Inspectors will also check quality of liquefied petroleum gas of LPG after several gas explosions occurred recently.

The inspection result will be made public in October.

The national inspection of gasoline quality is initiated after a lot of vehicle fires, which are suspected to have connection to poor quality of gasoline.

Recently, a filling station in Hanoi was detected to sell unqualified gas, with the oxygen content three times more than permitted level.

Most recently, a petrol station in Bac Giang province was surrounded by customers after they discovered that the station sold poor quality gas.

In late 2011, the HCM City Department of Science and Technology inspected 55 filling stations and found out 11 stations that sold poor quality gasoline.

The authorities have also detected dozens of filling stations which used electronic chipsets to cheat customers. Using these chips makes the real volume of gas that customers receive to be less than the volume of gas shown on the gas meter.

In 2008, the Ministry of Science and Technology carried out a nationwide inspection of gasoline quality but the inspection focused on measurement equipment. The inspection detected serious fraudulence that affected the interest of consumers.

Phuong Lan
