VietNamNet Bridge – The sex ratio at birth in Vietnam in the first half of 2014 was 114 boys per 100 girls, said Duong Quoc Trong, the general director of the Population - Family Planning Administration.
The ratio last year was 113.8 boys per 100 girls. The current sex ratio at birth in Vietnam has exceeded the projected level for 2018, and continues to rise.
According to Trong, Vietnam will start experiencing the social consequences of gender imbalance by 2025.
China lacks 67 million women of marriageable age, while India lacks 42 million, and manifestations of gender-based violence and sexual violence have appeared in Indian society.
Trong also said that Vietnam began to have signs of imbalance in the sex ratio in 2006 and it has has steadily risen, from 111.2 boys per 100 girls in 2010 to 111.9/100 in 2011. It was 112.3/100 in 2012 and is now 114/100.
