VietNamNet Bridge – Ngo Le Bang, General Secretary of Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on Tuesday, Feb 5, that he wanted to resign from his post soon after Tet Lunar New Year holidays, citing work pressure.

Bang’s decision, announced four months ahead of the VFF congress, surprised VFF leaders as he seemed enthusiastic about his work after taking over from Tran Quoc Tuan.
Since he took charge last February, he was assigned several tasks, including looking for a coach for the national football squad and acting as head of the football team for AFF Cup 2012.
However, Bang expressed that working as VFF General Secretary had been stressful and tough on him.
“Of late, I’ve tried my best to complete my tasks. Vietnamese football has experienced turbulent times. I do want to hand over my post to a more competent person who can contribute more to the development of football in the country,” he said.
He noted that he had been too busy with work and now he wanted to spend more time with his family.
However, VFF Chairman Nguyen Trong Hy suggested that Bang should think twice about his resignation as he is currently busy preparing for the upcoming 9th congress of VFF, scheduled this June.
It is being said that Bang’s retirement would open the way for former football Chief Tran Quoc Tuan to come back to resume work in the next term.
Rumors are that Tuan will be officially named General Secretary in the upcoming 9th congress.
Tuan is currently in charge of supervision at the General Department of Sports and Physical Training. He is also a member of the Southeast Asian Football Federation and Asian Football Confederation.
