VietNamNet Bridge – German Chancellor Angela Merkel will make an official visit to Vietnam on October 11-12, according to Luong Thanh Nghi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit aims to boost comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Germany in various areas, especially in politics-diplomacy, economics, trade, investment, development cooperation, education and training.
The Chancellor is scheduled to hold talks with Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung and other senior Vietnamese leaders. She will also visit some economic and cultural centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam and Germany have recently signed a cooperation and partnership agreement that will tighten ties between the Europe Union and Vietnam.
Werner Hoyer, the Minister of State at the German Foreign Office, said that the agreement will be a firm basis for the countries’ development in the future, considering that Vietnam is one of the countries with active growth rates in the Southeast Asian region, and an important partner not only of Germany but the whole of EU as well.
It also help facilitate the negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and EU and strengthen the political relationship between ASEAN and EU as well, he said.
