Florian Nguyen (born in 1988) moved to HCM City in 2016 where he developed a visual art project consisting mainly of works drawn in black and white and installations.

His drawing is characterized by a great precision of line, from the drawing on paper to the monumental fresco.

He is currently working around the memory and processes of restoring memories.

The exhibition presented in 2016 by the l’Institut français de Ho Chi Minh Ville addressed the issue of the transmission of family memory.

The exhibition “The gesture of memories” at L’Espace is an extension of the project begun with the French-Vietnamese choreographer, Sébastien Ly, about the gestural memory. It takes the form of a series of drawings and various in-situ installations.

Contemporary Dance “Beyond Absence” by Sébastien Ly will take place on 22 Apr at L’Espace.

“Beyond Absence” is the cream of the exhibition “Gestures of Memories” by Florian Nguyen. All emotions and feelings are gathered by dance artists from the exhibition’s audience and all those who gravitate around, enlivening the dancers’ bodies and reviving all original sensations.

Five dancers will invite the audience to walk freely through different rooms and create their own courses based on their encounters with the artists.

The quintets, trios, duets of dancers will take turn to perform, highlighting the characteristics of the areas they have walked through. Audience will be invited to interact with the artists. It will surely be a once-in-a-life-time experience.

A unique artwork is not only to be seen, but to be experienced.

“Beyond Absence” was previously performed on April 16 during the “Krossing – Over” Festival in HCM City.

After training at the Center National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers, Sébastien Ly became a dancer at the National Choreographic Center of Nantes. He founded the company Kerman in 2005 where he developed some work in situ, while some of them were developed in museums and performed collaboratively with visual arts.
