VietNamNet Bridge - At about 1.30pm on October 8, in Po To commune, Ia Pa district, Gia Lai province, two people were struck dead and two others were injured by lightning.

According to an initial information, in the morning of that day, four young men: Nguyen Van Cong (born 1983), Ngo Van Cuong (born 1987), Nguyen Van Thang (born 1988), and Luong Van Nam (born 1985), all from Po To commune, went to the field to harvest cassava.
After lunch in the field, it suddenly rained. Cong and Cuong were sheltering from the rain under a tree. Thang also took shelter from the rain under another tree, about 50 meters away from Cong and Cuong while Nam ran out to seek his buffalo.
When Nam led the buffalo close to the field, lightning suddenly appeared, illuminating the sky, accompanied by a loud bang at the location of Cong and Cuong.
Although his whole body was numb, Nam still tried to run over to help Cong and Cuong. However, when Nam arrived, Cong and Cuong were unconscious and their bodies were burned. Nearby, Thang was also lying unconscious.
Nam fainted soon after. About 15 minutes later, the young man woke up and called for help, but no one came. Nam used a buffalo cart to take his three friends to the Medical Center of Ia Pa District.
Although doctors at the Ia Pa District Health Center initiated treatment, due to severe injuries, Cong and Cuong died.
At 5pm the same day, Nam and Thang were still in critical condition.
