VietNamNet Bridge – Scientists have found a big spider in Ky Anh district of Ha Tinh Province. They said that this is a black widow.

Mr. Le Ba Hanh, deputy director of Ha TinhMuseum, said while cutting down bushes at an ancient stone citadel in the South Ha Tinh preventive forest, some locals detected a big spider. Some scientists took pictures of the giant spider.

The spider is around 6 cm long, 3 cm wide, 6 gr in weight, with a big wide and two big front teeth of 10 mm long.

The animal’s back is in dark grey while its stomach is in black, with ten legs.

Dr. Pham Dinh Sac, from the Institute for Ecology and Bio-resources, said the spider belongs to Theraphosidae family, one of big families of Araneae order, with 883 species recorded in the world.

The Theraphosidae family has big sizes of 1.3-9 cm long. There are two toxic species belonging to this family, including one in Australia and one in China.

Scientists from the Institute for Ecology and Bio-resources discovered the Ornithoctonus huwena species of the Theraphosidae family in the northern province of Lang Son in 2001 and 2003, and in Vinh Phuc province in 2005.

Dr. Sac said the poison of this spider is dangerous for humans and animals, but it can be used to process medicines.
