VietNamNet Bridge – Mr. Le Truong Giang, a farmer in Hon Dat district, southern province of Kien Giang caught a 4.5kg copperhead last weekend, which is the largest in this region so far.

Giang said that he went to the field and saw some animal that was running on the field. Wherever it moved, rice fell.

The man quickly placed a fishing net on the other side of the field--where the animal was heading to. The animal was stuck in the net. “It turned out to be a very big snake. It was so big that I dared not to kill it,” Giang said.

The man sold this giant snake, which is over 4.5kg, to a trader in Tri Ton, An Giang province, at the price of VND3.5 million ($160).

Another man in HCM City paid nearly VND5 million ($250) to buy the snake from this trader. According to this man, he bought the snake to take gall to treat his mother’s disease. The body would be soaked into an alcohol jar to make “snake wine.”

According to an official of An Giang Forest Protection Department, copperheads are rare animals that must be preserved. At present, such big snakes are very rare in this region.

Copperhead is rumored to be good for treating many diseases.
