VietNamNet Bridge – At 4am on October 28, a hole 15m wide, and over 2.5m deep suddenly appeared on a road in Quy Loc commune in Yen Dinh district of Thanh Hoa province.

Originally, the hole was only about 1.5 meter wide, but only a few hours later, the crater continued to expand, and it may keep widening.

"I was awakened by a loud bang. I grabbed my flashlight and got out of my house to see what was happening. I saw a deep hole close to the ditch near my house. The hole kept expanding with many trees falling down," said 58-year-old Duong Duc Hien.

"I’ve been living here for many decades but this is the first time I have seen this phenomenon," an old man at the scene said.

Local residents reported the incident to local authorities. Currently, the site was blocked and electricity in this area was cut.

The local authorities have asked households living in the area to evacuate their assets and have assigned militia and policemen to guard the pit.

Hundreds of locals are flocking to the village to see the big hole.

Mr. Le Vu Lam, vice chairman of Yen Dinh district, said the local government had asked relevant agencies to examine the hole and deal with it.

"At first, we relocated the elderly, children and property to safe places and then we will settle this unusual incident," Mr. Lam said.
