VietNamNet Bridge – 1.7m tall, 1.1, wide, this set of pottery censers surprised visitors at the handicraft exhibition in Hanoi last weekend.

Three censers were made by artisan Nguyen Van Hoa, from Hanoi’s Bat Trang pottery village.

King Ly Thai To’s “Chieu Doi Do” (Royal Edict on the Transfer of the Capital), the historical Dong Bo Dau naval battle, the in-the-air Dien Bien Phu battle, Khue Van Cac, etc. are build on censers.

Artisan Hoa said that he made these censers in three years. The most difficult stage is burning them at 1,300oC. He said that these censers are spiritually valuable so he did not want to sell them, though someone offered VND4 billion ($200,000) for these products.

At the exhibition, a set of 18 Arhat statues (1-1.17m high) also impressed visitors. They are products of artisan Nguyen Thuy Duong, also from Bat Trang pottery village.

Artisan Duong also created a set of three deities of 1.2m tall. These pottery statues are used as fengsui items.
