In expressions of solidarity and sympathy for the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi, global leaders have sent letters, telegrams, and messages to General Secretary and President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.

Countries and organizations have also provided direct and indirect support, including manpower and materials, to help Vietnam recover as swiftly as possible.

The Acting Head of State of Cambodia, Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary expressed their condolences to the state and people of Vietnam, particularly to the families of the victims. Cambodia also expressed confidence that Vietnam would resiliently overcome this difficult time.

Global leaders express solidarity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India shared his condolences and reaffirmed India’s commitment to assisting Vietnam, ensuring those in affected areas can quickly overcome challenges and stabilize their lives.

Similarly, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon of New Zealand expressed solidarity with the Vietnamese people, pledging New Zealand’s readiness to support Vietnam in overcoming the storm’s aftermath.

Among other global leaders, Pope Francis, President Aleksandr Lukashenko of Belarus, and President Wavel Ramkalawan of Seychelles sent messages of condolence regarding the losses caused by Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam.

Additionally, Foreign Ministers from countries including Cambodia, the USA, New Zealand, Egypt, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, and Seychelles reached out to express their sympathies to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

Messages of sympathy were also shared on various websites and social media platforms by foreign ministries and embassies, highlighting their concern over the storm’s devastation.

International aid and contributions

Beyond messages of support, countries and international organizations have moved quickly to provide financial aid, equipment, and essential supplies to help Vietnam recover.

As of September 16, over $22 million in aid has been pledged from 20 countries and international organizations. This includes funding, shelter supplies, clean water, sanitation resources, and more to help address the impacts of Typhoon Yagi.

In addition to international support, overseas Vietnamese have shown their commitment to helping their homeland. The Vietnam Fatherland Front reported donations exceeding 600 million VND from the overseas community.

Furthermore, Vietnamese communities abroad have raised approximately 19 billion VND to support those affected by the storm. The total amount of contributions from overseas Vietnamese is expected to grow in the coming days.
