Samsung launched the model in Seoul on third-generation (3G) networks on Monday, but it planned to roll out it on the faster, upgraded fourth-generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks next month through the country's three mobile carriers such as SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus.
The Galaxy S3, running on Google's latest Android operating system Ice Cream Sandwich, features three major options of recognizing face, voice and motion.
The new smartphone features the 'Smart stay' function, or an eye sensor system that prevents the phone from dimming. It recognizes when the screen is being viewed by having the front camera identify users' eyes, so it prevents the screen from dimming.
The 'S Voice' is a voice command option to listen and respond to users' words. The option can be used to go off users' phone alarm, turn volume up, send text messages, organize schedules and automatically launch the camera and capture a photo.
The 'Direct call' option can understand users' motions. If users are text-messaging someone but decide to call them instead, users can simply lift their phones to their ears and the 'Direct call' function will dial their number automatically.
In addition, the 'S Beam' option enables Galaxy S3 owners to share contents between devices by tapping the smartphone back to back. The 'Pop up play' function enables users to play videos while web-surfing or text-messaging.
