VietNamNet Bridge – While digging into the mountain near the An Diem 2 reservoir in Quang Nam province to mine gold, the pit suddenly collapsed, burying four people.

Illegal gold mining is now a big problem of Quang Nam Province.



Mr. Do Tai - Chairman of Dong Giang district, Quang Nam province, says the collapse of an illegal gold killed two local men, Nguyen Ngoc Trong, 26 and Nguyen Dinh Vu, 27 and injuring two others.

Local authorities report that at about 4pm on September 25, these people used a high pressure water sprayer to spray into the cliff near the reservoir of An Diem 2 hydropower plan to mine gold. Suddenly the cliff collapsed, burying the four people.

Trong and Vu were standing near the cliff so they were buried with large amounts of soil and rock and they died on the spot.

The two others were luckily rescued by local people and brought to the hospital. On the morning of September 26, the two bodies were brought home for funeral.

The authorities of Dong Giang district paid a visit to the families of victims and instructed local police to investigate the incident.
