Given the success of the first edition in 2015, the Gout de France dinner event will come back on March 21, featuring 25 restaurants in HCMC, Hanoi, Danang, Hoi An and Hue.
Laurent Fabius, former Foreign Minister of France, said in a statement that Gout de France, or Good France, will take place the same night in five continents with the participation of over 1,500 restaurants.
The event was initiated by Fabius and Michelin three-star chef Alain Ducasse to honor French chefs, especially young and potential ones, and highlight the traditional food of different French regions.
There are 15 restaurants in Hanoi, six in Ho Chi Minh City, two in Hoi An and one in each of Hue and Danang. Some popular restaurant names are Café du lac at InterContinental Westlake, Café Lautrec of Hôtel de l’Opéra and Le Beaulieu at Sofitel Métropole, L’Olivier at Sofitel Plaza Saigon and Le Bordeaux.
Restaurants in Vietnam will join other countries to prepare a menu consisting of an appetizer, one or many main courses, cheese, a dessert, and many kinds of wine and champagne of France.
The Embassy of France in Hanoi will organize a Gout de France dinner with the presence of high school students and French language learners while the dinner hosted by the consulate general of France in Ho Chi Minh City will feature Claude Bartolone, president of the National Assembly of France.
Michelin two-star chef Thierry Drapeau will prepare the dinner in HCMC.
Last year’s event attracted over 100,000 diners to over 1,300 restaurants, 85% of them overseas, and 150 French embassies in five continents.
