According to the resolution, citizens can use their citizen ID card, e-identification and online national database to carry out transactions and administrative procedures as household registration books will be abolished nationwide early next year.

He also asked the ministries to review, identify hindrances, propose solutions and amendments to Decision 06/QD-TTg, and send the results to the Ministry of Public Security before September 20.

The Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Justice were also ordered to review the documents and submit them to the prime minister before September 30.

Some authorities have revoked the household registration books, causing inconveniences for people as the books are still valid as proof of residence.

In August, the minister of public security, To Lam, said the ministry only revoked household registration books when individuals carried out procedures for residence registration leading to a change of information.

The Ministry of Public Security spokesperson, To An Xo, said at the Government’s regular press conference on September 6 that the ministry has reviewed and handled household registration book revocation cases.

The Police Department for Administrative Management of Social Order also issued official dispatches instructing the use of alternative citizens’ information in place of household registration books and temporary residence books when they carry out administrative procedures and conduct civil transactions.

Specifically, citizens can use chip-based ID cards, personal identification numbers, information in the national population database and other valid documents to prove their identity.
