Party leader pushes for stronger Vietnam-Cuba ties

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong met with Marino Murillo Jorge, Vice President of Cuba’s Council of Ministers, in Hanoi on October 9.





Jorge is currently the head of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) Commission responsible for implementing resolutions approved at the CPC’s sixth Congress.

He informed the host of the initial results of bringing the policy of the sixth CPC Congress, and pledged to further strengthen solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples in the coming time.

Trong said Jorge’s visit to Vietnam is a good chance to implement the agreements reached by the two countries’ leaders and boost cooperation between the two Parties and countries.

He said he believes under the sound leadership of the CPC, led by President Raul Castro and leader Fidel Castro, the Cuban people will record greater achievements in their revolutionary cause.

The CPV leader also reiterated Vietnam’s faithful support and solidarity with the CPC and Cuban people.

PM welcomes new German ambassador

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with German newly-accredited Ambassador to Vietnam Jutta Frasch in Hanoi on October 9.

During the meeting, Dung expressed his delight at the strategic partnership between the two countries, which has been strongly developed in various fields ranging from politics, diplomacy to economy, trade, investment, development aid, and education and training.

The PM thanked the German Government for its development aid given to Vietnam, suggested Germany to continue assisting Vietnam in infrastructure development and human resources training, as well as supporting the country in boosting ties with the European Union (EU), particularly during the negotiations on a Vietnam-EU free trade agreement.

He said he hopes Frasch will actively contribute to strengthening the cooperation between the two countries, especially in economy, trade, investment, and education and training.

Jutta Frasch affirmed that during her tenure, she will coordinate with related ministries and sectors of Vietnam to step up the strategic partnership between the two countries, effectively implementing German-funded projects, and contributing to deepening the Vietnam-Germany relationship.

RoK science & technology model praised

The development of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) model in Vietnam is an indispensable trend of the current age, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has said.

While receiving KIST President Kil Choo Moon in Hanoi on October 9, Nhan said that Vietnam plans to strongly develop the science and technology sector between now and 2030 with the aim of carrying out practical researches that meet people’s aspirations.

Therefore, the model will boost cooperation between Vietnam and the RoK in graduate and post-graduate training, he stressed.

Nhan thanked the RoK for its efforts to accelerate the building of the Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology Research after the KIST model, expressing his wish that after the completion of the project, the RoK side will share working experience with Vietnamese officials.

Kil expressed his belief that together with the support and cooperation of the Vietnamese Government, the project will be completed at the earliest time, making the institute an attractive destination for scientists inside and outside the country.

Vietnam, Saudi Arabia vow to boost cooperation

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has expressed hope that the Saudi Fund for Development will continue to assist capital sources invested in Vietnam and promote its cooperation with Saudi Arabia in trade, investment, labour and other fields.

PM Dung made the remarks at a reception given to visiting Saudi Arabian Finance Minister Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al-assaf, who is also chairman of the Saudi Fund for Development, in Hanoi on October 9.

During the meeting, Dung pledged that the Government of Vietnam will create favourable conditions for Saudi Arabian investors to gain successful results in Vietnam.

Al-assaf informed the host of two loan agreements with the Saudi Fund for Development which he signed with his Vietnamese counterpart Vuong Dinh Hue in Hanoi earlier on the same day.

The Minister said the fund will continue providing capital for investment projects in Vietnam, especially major projects in infrastructure and energy. He expressed hope that two countries will also strengthen cooperation in oil and gas, and agriculture.

The two newly-signed loan agreements, totalled 116 million SAR (about 30.94 million USD), is for the contruction of two roads linking Thach Kim and Hien Hoa, and Xuan Phuoc and Phu Hai communes in the central provinces of Quang Tri and Phu Yen, respectively.

Saudi Arabia has so far provided loans worth 213 million SAR (56.8 million USD) through the fund for four projects in Vietnam.

Vietnamese leaders send congratulations to Venezuelan President

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong on October 8 sent a message of congratulations to Hugo Chavez Frias, leader of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, on being re-elected as President of the Bolivian Republic of Venezuela for the 2013-2019 term.

On the same day, President Truong Tan Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also extended their congratulations to the Venezuelan President.

Condolences sent to Algeria over former leader’s death

President Truong Tan Sang on October 9 extended his condolences to Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika over the death of former President Chadli Bendjedid.

Chadli Bendjedid died on October 6 at the age of 83.

Vietnam, Laos update mass mobilization

Officials from the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation are running a course in Hanoi starting on October 9, to exchange experiences with their counterparts from the Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC).

During the course, the officials from Laos will hear reports on mass mobilisation in the new era, especially for ethnic minority people and religious followers, the Vietnamese Party and State’s policies on ethnic and religious affairs as well as the regulations on grassroots democracy and mass mobilisation when building new rural areas.

Communication campaigns on solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos as well as ways of updating the Fatherland Front and other mass organisations’ operations will also be outlined.

The officials from Laos will work with the Vietnam Fatherland Front and exchange their experiences of mass mobilisation with others provinces across the country, including Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen and Quang Ninh.

The course, which runs until October 21, is expected to help consolidate and strengthen the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation shown between Vietnam and Laos.

VN delegation attends Peru’s communist party congress

A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by Deputy Head of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Nguyen Manh Hung has attended the 14th National Congress of the Peruvian Communist Party (PCP).

During their stay in Peru, the Vietnamese delegation met and worked with some leaders of PCP and the Communist Party of Peru- Red Fatherland.

At the meetings, the two sides informed each other of development situation of each party and in the two countries. They discussed measures to further promote the traditional solidarity and cooperation between the CPV with Peruvian parties.

Delegates from Peru’s parties praised recent socio-economic development achievements recorded by Vietnam and said they hope to increase the exchange of visits, the sharing of experience and cooperation with Vietnam in many fields.

Leaders of PCP and the Communist Party of Peru-Red Fatherland spoke highly of the Vietnamese military-run Viettel Group’s investment in a telecommunication network in Peru, affirming their coordination and support for Viettel and other Vietnamese businesses to do business in their country in the future.

Taking place from October 4-7 in Lima capital, the PCP’s congress was attended by more than 300 domestic delegates and a lot of delegations of political parties in the region and the world.

The congress elected a new 53-members central committee and reelected Roberto De la Cruz Huaman as General Secretary.
