Congratulations to Thai leaders

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday, Aug 9, sent a message of congratulations to Yingluck Shinawatra after she received royal approval to become the 28th Prime Minister of Thailand.

On the same day, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung addressed a congratulatory letter to newly elected Speaker of the Lower House of Thailand Somsak Kiatsuranont.

Lao leader seeks to boost ties with Da Nang

Lao Party General Secretary and State President Choummaly Sayasone has expressed his hope that cooperation between the central city of Da Nang and Lao localities will develop further in the future. 

During his meeting with municipal leaders on August 9, the Lao leader said that over the years, many high-ranking delegations from the Lao Party and State have visited Da Nang city, while the Vietnamese city regularly sends delegations to Lao localities.
According to municipal leaders, Da Nang city has signed 24 agreements and memoranda of understanding with Lao localities, such as the capital city of Vientiane , Savannakhet, Champassak, Sekong, Saravan, Bolikhamsay and Sayaburi provinces.
In 2009, the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee decided to set up a management board of Southern Laos projects based in Pakse town, Champassak province to address issues relating to cooperative programmes between Da Nang and Lao localities.
Da Nang city reported an export turnover to Laos of over US$12.7 million in the first five months of this year.
At present, four Da Nang companies have invested in Laos, with a total investment of nearly US$52.3 million.
Between 2001 and July 2011, the city disbursed more than VND56 billion in support of central and southern Lao provinces in the fields of socio-economic planning, human resource training, transport and sports training.
The two sides’ travel companies have also cooperated in operating caravan tours from Thailand via Laos to Vietnam. 

Delegation attends Venezuela Communist Party congress

A delegation of the Communist Party of Viet Nam recently attended the 14th congress of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV).

The delegation, led by Party Central Committee Commission for External Relations deputy head Vuong Thua Phong, held meetings with General Secretary Oscar Figuera and other members of the PCV Political Bureau, to increase the solidarity and traditional co-operation between the Parties and peoples of the two countries.

The delegation also had discussions with other international delegations.

Themed "Together with the working class and labourers to seize power", the 14 th Party Congress from August 4-7 discussed a political report, updated the platform and renewed the Party Statutes.

The congress affirmed consistent support for the social security policies of the administration of President Hugo Chavez.

Vietnam, India engage in strategic dialogue

Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son and his Indian counterpart Sanjay Singh held the second strategic dialogue and the fifth political consultation in Hanoi on August 8-9.

At the sessions, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in politics, economics, trade, investment, culture and education, especially cooperation in national defence and security, high tech and human resource training. They also discussed measures to boost the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The countries agreed to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, organise the 14th session of the Joint-Committee in Vietnam in September 2011, and activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties (January 7, 1972) and five years of establishment of the strategic partnership (2007-2012) between the two countries in 2012.
The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of common concern.
They agreed the East Sea issue needs to be solved by peaceful measures based on international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and also agreed concerned parties needs to strictly implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
The two sides highly valued and agreed to continue close cooperation at regional and international forums, including ASEAN-India cooperation, the East Asia Summit (EAS), Mekong-Ganga Cooperation and at the United Nations.
They also discussed viewpoints on non-traditional security, while agreeing to hold the third Strategic Dialogue and the sixth political consultation in India at a convenient time in 2013.
