Fatherland Front delegation visits Laos
A delegation from the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s (VFF) Central Committee led by Vice President Le Ba Trinh is visiting Laos from May 9-15, to boost ties with the neighbouring country.

The LFNC leader thanked Vietnam for jointly organizing the many activities during the 2012 Laos-Vietnam Year of Friendship and Solidarity.
He said that he hopes that both countries will strengthen cooperation and speed up the implementation of previously signed agreements, especially to inform both peoples of the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
He confirmed that the LFNC will do its utmost to preserve and promote the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Trinh stressed that the VFF always attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with the LFNC.
He said the VFF will work closely with its Lao counterpart to encourage the peoples of both countries to maintain security and order to ensure a peaceful and friendly border, helping to bring the special relationship to a new height.
Vietnam, Laos share Front tasks
he Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and the Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC) jointly held a meeting on front tasks in Vientiane on May 10.
Vice President of the VFF Central Committee Le Ba Trinh made presentations on two themes, VFF contribution to Party building, people’s administration building and consolidation and the coordination between the VFF and State agencies as well as VFF member organisations.
Delegates exchanged Vietnam ’s experience in building a people unity bloc, considering it a practical matter for the LFNC in the cause for national construction under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
LFNC Vice President Buarvon Onchanhhom thanked the VFF for organising useful activities to provide the Lao Front with more experiences in building a stronger Laos, contributing to fostering and developing the special Vietnam-Laos relations.
Vietnam attends ASEAN labour ministers meeting
Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen led a Vietnamese delegation to attend the 22 nd ASEAN Labour Ministers Meeting which took place in the Cambodia capital city of Phnom Penh on May 10.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Chuyen stressed that sharing experience in skills development and skill improvement through regional cooperation is an important step towards the mutual recognition of professional qualifications in ASEAN.
She asked ASEAN members to prioritise professional skill harmonisation in their national labour programme until 2015, with the aim of recognizing professional qualifications of workers in certain jobs in ASEAN countries.
Chuyen also stressed the need for a market of skillful workers and migrant workers in order to build a dynamic and effective ASEAN Community.
In his opening speech, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen urged ASEAN countries to protect their workers abroad in the process of labour market liberalisation towards an ASEAN Community in 2015.
With a workforce of 285 million people, ASEAN countries need to be clearly aware of the importance of creating more jobs, developing labour quality and social protection for workers and protecting the rights of guest workers, he stressed.
He also emphasized the need for labour cooperation among ASEAN members.
The meeting issued a joint communiqué, agreeing on job creation and human resource development, increasing management over labour migration, strengthening social security and social protection and multilateral cooperation and prevention of HIV/AIDS among workers.
After the meeting, themed “Improving social protection and skill development,” Labour Ministers of ASEAN and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea held the eighth ALMM + 3.
Vice President to attend international conferences in Japan and Greece
Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan will lead a Vietnamese delegation to the 18th International Conference on "The Future of Asia" in Tokyo, Japan on May 24-25.
This year's conference, entitled "Asia's Role in a Tumultuous World – In Search of a New Growth Model" will discuss the role that the Asia-Pacific region can play to sustain growth and enhance stability in an increasingly tumultuous world.
Regional leaders will debate solutions to cope with challenges to development in Asia.
During her stay in Japan, Mrs Doan expects to visit Aichi prefecture and meet with Japanese officials to promote cooperative relations between the two countries.
*** From May 31-June 2, Vice President Doan will attend the 2012 Global Summit of Women (GSW) in Athens, Greece at the invitation of GSW President Irene Natividad.
The Vietnamese delegation will introduce the achievements it has recorded in promoting gender equality and women’s advancement, and share experiences in enhancing women’s role in development and boosting international cooperation for women’s advancement.
Quang Tri to host conference on East-West economic corridor
A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son will attend the Deputy Foreign Ministerial Conference of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand on the East-West economic corridor in the central province of Quang Tri from May 16-19.
The conference will review activities related to the building of the East-West economic corridor in each country and discuss measures to remove difficulties in the project.
