Laos and Viet Nam welcome National Assembly delegations

Deputy Chairman of National Assembly Uong Chu Luu received a delegation from the Lao National Assembly's Committee for Cultural and Social Affairs in Ha Noi yesterday, Sept 10.

Luu highlighted the need for the legislative bodies of the two countries to work together to organise the 7th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting in Laos next month.

The Lao law-makers said they hoped for increased co-operation in creating legal documents on natural disaster prevention, as well as in regional and international forums.

Lao NA chairwoman receives Vietnamese guests

Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotou received a delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly’s Committee for People’s Aspirations in Vientiane on September 10.





Delegation Head Nguyen Duc Hien, who is also Head of the NA’s Committee for People’s Aspirations, told the host that the purpose of Vietnamese officials’ visit is to share with Lao relevant agencies experience drawn from the settlement of issues raised by people.

Chairwoman Yathotou agreed that sharing experience on the handling of petitions and denunciations lodged by people is necessary for the two countries during their national construction and development processes.

She also underscored the need for relevant ministries and departments to work closely to ensure people’s rights and interests in line with law.

The Lao leader expressed her belief that the Vietnamese delegation will have useful working sessions on the field with the Lao NA’s Law Committee, the Ministry of Justice and authorities of Luang Prabang province.

Vietnam, Indonesia tighten defense cooperation

Deputy Minister of Defense Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh gave a farewell reception to Indonesia’s outgoing military attaché Angkasa Dipua in Hanoi on September 10.

Deputy Minister Vinh spoke highly of the Indonesian outgoing military official’s contributions to the promotion of friendship and multi-dimensional cooperation between the two countries’ armies.

Angkasa Dipua said he hopes the two armies will boost their defense cooperation in such specific fields as rescue drills and join patrols at sea. The same day, Vinh received Indonesia’s new military attaché to Vietnam Susilo Adi Puwantoro.

Vietnam boosts relations with African parties

A delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Tran Dac Loi, paid working visits to Angola, Algeria and Egypt from Aug. 30-Sept. 9 to promote ties between Vietnam an parties in the countries.

During the visits, the delegates held talks with delegations of the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the National Liberation Front (FLN) Party of Algeria and the Communist Party, the Freedom and Justice Party and the Socialist Party of Egypt.

The delegation also met with the General Secretary of FLN, Abdel Aziz Belkhadem and the President of the Algerian Parliament, Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa,

At the talks and meetings, participants discussed ways to further develop and promote bilateral party relations as well as to step up cooperation between Vietnam and the African countries in several fields.

In Angola, the Vietnamese delegation also joined activities of international observers to monitor the country’s general election.
