Vietnam to open new embassy, consulates general
The Government on February 11 issued a resolution to establish an embassy and two consulates general abroad.
Under Resolution no 09/NQ-CP, the new establishments will include the Vietnamese Embassy in Colombo , Sri Lanka and the Vietnamese Consulates Generals in Perth, Australia and Vancouver, Canada.
Vietnamese, Lao parties bolster ties
General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Choummaly Sayasone received visiting Vietnamese Party official Hoang Binh Quan in the Lao capital of Vientiane on Saturday.
Quan, who is the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV), and Director of its External Relations Commission, and Special Envoy of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, briefed his host on the results of the CPV's 11th National Congress.
He affirmed that the documents passed at the congress offered a profound review of all theoretical and practical issues related to the building of socialism and national defence in the 25 years of Viet Nam's implementation of Doi Moi (renewal); 20 years of the implementation of the CPV 1991 Political Platform; a decade of the 2001-2010 socio-economic development strategy and five years since the implementation of the resolution of the 10th National Party Congress.
He stated that the Vietnamese Party, State and people would continue boosting the traditional friendship, solidarity and co-operation with the Lao Party, State and people.
Quan took the occasion to convey an invitation to General Secretary Choummaly Sayasone from General Secretary Trong to visit Viet Nam.
General Secretary Choummaly Sayasone, who is also President of Laos, described Quan's briefing of the Lao leadership on the CPV's national congress as a manifestation of the trust and close ties between the two parties. He congratulated and praised the achievements Viet Nam had recorded in national construction and defence, which had helped to improve the country's position regionally and globally.
He informed the Vietnamese Party official of preparations for the up-coming 9th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.
He confirmed that the Lao Party, State and people attached continued importance to boosting relations between the two countries for the benefit of both sides and for peace, stability, co-operation and development.
He invited General Secretary Trong to visit Laos.
The same day, Quan held talks with the Lao Party's Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister, Director of the Lao Party's External Relations Commission and Foreign Minister of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.
Over VND9,600 billion invested in Nghe An
Nghe An provincial People’s Committee and businesses have signed ten investment agreements worth VND9,636 billion to carry out projects in the locality.
The signing ceremony was held at the annual meeting of Nghe An’s leaders and investors in Vinh City on February 12.
The Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) committed to assist the social welfare programme (healthcare, education and training) and build up new rural areas in the first phase with total capital of VND15 billion for Nam Dan district, and support VND500 million for Nghi Xuan commune, Nghi Loc district for education and training. BIDV also promised to lend Nghe An businesses VND3,085 billion.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung emphasised Nghe An province, as well as businesses and investors must work with each other to create new strengths and focus on the quality of projects to develop quickly and strongly.
He noted that Nghe An has the advantage of abundant human resources (1.8 million labourers), however, to attract investors, it should pay attention to infrastructure and create its services to develop projects such as banking, telecommunications, healthcare, education and training.
Mr. Hung also expressed his pleasure that, apart from doing business, businesses attach special importance to social welfare programmes that will increase people’s standards of living.
The annual meeting aimed to assess the deployment of previous agreements and discuss measures to resolve issues and push the speed of implementation, while continuing to invest in advertising, and the environment and to promote newly-registered projects.
The event this year attracted representatives of central ministries and departments, along with over 150 groups, investors and businesses that have been investing into Nghe An.
From 2006 to 2010, 287 projects have been granted licenses in Nghe An with a total investment capital of VND99,275 billion.
