Viet Nam, Germany look to boost educational co-operation
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan emphasised yesterday, March 14, that Viet Nam and Germany should continue to further develop co-operation in the near future in all fields, especially education and training.
Speaking at the meeting with the German Minister of Education Dorothea Henzler, the Deputy PM applauded Germany's support, saying the signed co-operation agreement was a basis to boost bilateral relations.
Minister Henzler said the joint co-operation signed last May would strengthen educational co-operation, including providing support and exchange opportunities for students and improving professional skills for lecturers and educational experts.
Vietnam, Cambodia review border demarcation
Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son and Cambodian Senior Minister Var Kimhong have reviewed the implementation of an MoU on land border area adjustment signed between the two governments last April.

The two sides will organise a State-level ceremony to inaugurate border marker No. 314, the final marker on the Vietnam-Cambodia land border, in June this year, on the occasion of the 45 th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
They agreed that most of the land border demarcation activities have been completed, however the two sides need to further increase bilateral cooperation and make more efforts to fulfil the task and build up a file of Vietnam-Cambodia border legal documents.
The documents include a protocol on border demarcation and marker placement, an agreement on border management regulations, an agreement on border gates and border gate management and a Vietnam-Cambodia border atlas.
On the occasion, the two officials signed an agreement saying that the Vietnamese Government will provide financial support to Cambodia for the publication of the Vietnam-Cambodia border atlas.
National Women’s Congress wrapped up in Hanoi
The 11th National Women’s Congress closed in Hanoi on March 14 with a new executive committee elected and statutes amended.
Under the theme “Solidarity, creativity, integration, and development”, the Congress is an important political event, marking developments in upholding women’s role, potential, creativity, and contributions to the nation’s industrialization and modernization, as well as affirming the Party and State’s due attention to women and women’s organizations.
The three-day congress reviewed women’s emulation campaigns and the Vietnam Women’s Union’s (VWU) activities in the past five years, and devised orientations and tasks for the 2012-2017 tenure.
At the closing ceremony, Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa was re-elected President of the VWU Central Executive Committee. Her deputies are Tran Thanh Binh, Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy, Hoang Thi Ai Nhien, Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Bui Thu Ha, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, and Tran Thi Huong.
Addressing the ceremony, VWU President Hoa expressed appreciation to Party and State leaders, central agencies and international friends for contributing to the congress’s success.
The 11th Congress will open up new opportunities for the development of women’s campaigns and decisions on major related issues, as well as VWU’s activities in the context of international integration and sustainable development for the nation’s prosperity.
Belgian delegation works with Ha Nam Province
A Belgian delegation led by Brussels’s Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Benoit Cerexhe arrived in the northern province of Ha Nam on March 14.
Ha Nam is one of the localities of Vietnam that benefits from the Belgian government’s ODA.
A Belgian-funded drainage system and wastewater treatment project in Phu Ly City is expected to be completed in the second quarter of this year.
The provincial People’s Committee Chairman Mai Tien Dung expressed the desire that the Belgian government will continue providing official development assistance (ODA) capital for the province, to support environmental pollution treatment on Nhue River and wastewater and rubbish treatment in industrial parks and trade villages.
Benoit Cerexhe said he was impressed by the locality’s economic development, adding that the meeting helps the delegation to learn more about projects being implemented by Belgian businesses in Ha Nam province.
In the framework of the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on provision of ODA capital worth 10 million EUR for a project to build and improve sewage pumping stations in Phu Ly City.
