State President visits a historical site in Tuyen Quang
President Truong Tan Sang on February 14 visited Kim Binh Commune, Chiem Hoa District chosen to pilot the new national rural programme, in the northern mountain province of Tuyen Quang.
Mr Sang paid tribute to war martyrs at the Kim Binh Historical Monument where late President Ho Chi Minh and other State and Party leaders had met for the second National Party Congress in February 1951 to rename the Party from the Indochinese Communist Party into the Workers' Party of Vietnam.
He congratulated communal authorities and residents on their socio-economic development in connection with the implementation of the new rural area programme which gives priority to improving the living standards of local people.
The State leader urged the commune to focus on ensuring sustainable growth, boosting commodity production and taking better care of those who contributed actively to the resistance wars in the past.
Late President monument under construction in Tuyen Quang
Uncle Ho’s Monument is a significant historical construction project which demonstrates the respect and deep sentiment of ethnic minority groups in Tuyen Quang province for late President Ho Chi Minh.
State President Truong Tan Sang emphasized this while addressing the ground-breaking ceremony for the monument in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang on February 15. The ceremony was attended by former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu, members of the Party Central Committee Secretariat Ha Thi Khiet and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, leaders of central agencies and localities, and ethnic people in Tuyen Quang province.
Mr Sang said the monument honours Uncle Ho’s great service rendered to the nation and plays an important role in educating young people about the revolutionary tradition.
It will also encourage Tuyen Quang Party Committee and people to study and follow Uncle Ho’s moral example and contribute to national construction and defence, he said.
The State leader highlighted the province’s efforts in ironing out snags to gain achievements in all fields and improve local people’s living conditions, both physically and mentally.
However, he said, Tuyen Quang remains a poor province, so it should try its best to successfully implement the resolutions of the 11th National Party Congress to develop its economy and promote Party building.
President Sang expressed his confidence that Tuyen Quang will be able to overcome all difficulties, fully tap its potential, speed up the Renewal (Doi Moi) process, and escape from underdeveloped status.
The Uncle Ho Monument is located at the foot of Tho Son Mountain, where President Ho Chi Minh met and talked with Tuyen Quang ethnic minority people in 1961. It includes two parts: the front features seven characters with Uncle Ho standing in the centre, while on the back of the monument are three bas-reliefs featuring the Tan Trao banyan tree, cultural activities of local ethnic minority groups, and landscapes of the province.
