National Assembly chairman visits Cambodia

A high-ranking delegation of the Vietnam National Assembly (NA) led by its Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung left Hanoi on September 15 for an official visit to Cambodia.

The NA External Relations Committee said on September 15 that during his stay in the country, Hung will attend the 32nd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-32).

The visit was made at the invitation of the Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly Heng Samrin, who is also chairman of AIPA-32.

Vietnam’s senior military delegation visits China

Vietnam’s senior military political delegation led by Lieutenant General and Director of the People’s Army’s General Political Department Ngo Xuan Lich held talks with the General Political Department of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army on September 15.

During the talks, both sides compared notes on international and regional issues of mutual concern and briefed each other on the socio-economic situation in their respective country.

Mr Lich said military and national defense cooperation have developed fruitfully in recent times through their exchange of visits by leaders from the two Ministries of National Defense and their General Political Departments, enhancing the political trust and solidarity between the two armies.

Lieutenant General Lich reiterated the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent viewpoints on settling disputes in the East Sea by peaceful measures and abiding by international laws, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) signed between China and ASEAN.

On behalf of the General Political Department of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, Senior Lieutenant General Li Ji Nai agreed with the evaluation of Mr Lich on the positive development of solidarity, friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and China over the years.

The Vietnam-China friendship is a valuable asset of both nations and they need to make young generations fully aware of this to bring the relationship to a higher level.

The senior Lieutenant General said he hopes, in the spirit of comradeship and fraternity, China and Vietnam are quite capable of dealing with the East Sea issue successfully.

Earlier the same day, the Vietnamese delegation visited the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s editorial office.

PM appoints new VNA director general

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has appointed Nguyen Duc Loi, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), to the agency’s Director General position. 

The decision No 1573/QD-TTg will take effect on October 1.

Vietnamese defence delegation visits Israel

A high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence led by its Deputy Minister, Lieut. General Truong Quang Khanh, paid a working visit to Israel from September 11-15.

During its stay in Israel, the delegation was received by Defence Minister Ehud Barak and discussed measures to promote bilateral cooperation in national defence with Ehud Schorwetter Shani, General Director of the Israeli Ministry of Defence.

The delegation also visited some factories and industrial defence bases in the country.

The visit contributed to increasing understanding and promoting friendship and cooperation for mutual benefit between the two countries in the field of national defence in general, and in science-technology and defence industry in particular.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Israel Dinh Xuan Luu also joined the delegation.

Deputy Defence Minister meets US ambassador

Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh hosted a reception for US Ambassador David B.Shear in Ha Noi yesterday, Sep 15.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed defensive co-operation between the US and Viet Nam in preparation for Vinh's visit to the US.

The two sides affirmed that the results of bilateral defence co-operation in recent years were the foundation for future co-operation, and they looked forward to the signing of a memorandum of understanding on bilateral defence co-operation to further strengthen co-operative ties.

Vinh expressed his hope that in his tenure, ambassador David B.Shear would continue to promote relations between the two countries, including defensive ties.
