Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday, May 16, sent a message of congratulations to newly-elected French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault.
He also congratulated the new Premier of the Republic of Senegal, Abdoul Mbaye.
On the same day, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh sent his congratulations to his Senegalese counterpart Alioune Badara Cisse in taking up his new position.
EU states ratify co-operative pact
Representatives of 27 EU member countries yesterday, May 16, ratified a partnership and co-operation agreement with Viet Nam at the EU Foreign Ministers Meeting in Brussels, Belgium.
The agreement, in addition to defining basic principles in Viet Nam-EU relations, specifies a comprehensive co-operative framework in various fields, including trade, investment, law, peacekeeping and international security. The agreement is viewed as a valued tool to open a new chapter in bilateral relations, suited to the new status of the EU and the higher status of Viet Nam in the international arena.
The agreement, which was signed by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and European Council President Jose Manuel Barroso in October 2010 after two years of negotiations, is expected to bring the relationship to a new period of greater co-operation.
President receives delegation of former cadres
On May 16, State President Truong Tan Sang received a delegation of former cadres, who served late President Ho Chi Minh, to mark his 122nd birthday anniversary.

At the reception, President Sang showed his respect for their good sentiment towards HCM and highlighted the great significance of his thoughts and ethics.
The “Studying and following late President HCM’s moral example” campaign has obtained positive results, however there is much to be done. The campaign has accelerated nationwide in association with Party building work.
The fifth conference of the Party Central Committee which concluded on May 15 affirmed the Party and State’s determination to consolidate Party members’ confidence and to develop the nation as expected by President HCM, Mr Sang said.
He said he hopes every cadre will study and follow HCM’s moral example and continue to make greater contributions to national development.
The same day, during his visit to Ho Chi Minh museum, President Sang praised museum staff’s efforts to preserve Uncle Ho’s precious objects.
He asked them to improve their professional skills as well as apply advanced technology in preserving documents and objects related to President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary cause.
The museum is the custodian of 20,000 books and 13,000 objects pertaining to President Ho Chi Minh.
Meanwhile, a photo exhibition on President Ho Chi Minh and Thai Nguyen safe zone opened in Thai Nguyen city, in the northern mountainous province of Thai Nguyen.
On display at the exhibition are documentary photos and objects during the time President Ho Chi Minh stayed in the Thai Nguyen safe zone during the resistance war against the French colonialists.

Quang Tri to host mid-year consultative meeting
The Consultative Group (CG) for Viet Nam will hold its mid-year meeting in Dong Ha City in the central province of Quang Tri on June 4-5.
The World Bank announced yesterday that the meeting would focus on Viet Nam's macro-economy, breakthroughs and challenges in poverty reduction and management of vulnerability to natural disasters in the central coastal provinces.
Ahead of the CG meeting, the Viet Nam Business Forum (VBF), a dialogue linking the Vietnamese Government and business community, will be held on May 29. The CG meeting was first held in Viet Nam in 1999.
