More Bulgarian enterprises invest in Vietnam


State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan has called on Bulgarian enterprises, including Nove Holding Group, to promote business and investment in Vietnam.

Ms. Doan made the statement in Hanoi on November 18 while receiving Nove Holding Group’s President Vassil Bozhkov who is in Vietnam to seek investment opportunities.

She appreciated Mr. Vassil Bozhkov’s return to Vietnam with the aim of stepping up investment projects in the country, especially in such fields as expressway construction, education and training.

Ms. Doan emphasised that Vietnam and Bulgaria have long-established relations but they have not yet met their potential and demand for development.    

She said Vietnam has much improved its business environment and wished Bulgarian businesses would increase investment in Vietnam and consider the possibility of using Vietnamese workers in the agricultural sector.

Mr. Bozhkov said Nove Holding Group will soon establish a scholarship fund for Vietnamese students to study in Bulgaria and is ready to sign an official written document on this issue.

He affirmed the need for closer cooperation in education and training and other fields, and praised those Vietnamese graduating from Bulgarian universities for promoting cooperative ties between Vietnam and Bulgaria.


Lao commemorates Vientiane’s 450th anniversary


The Lao People’s Democratic Republic held a ceremony to celebrate the 450th anniversary of its capital city of Vientiane on November 19.

Lao President Choumaly Sayasone received 350 delegates from 17 provinces and cities of Laos, who attended the ceremony in Vientiane.

Mr Sayasone, who is also General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, highlighted the significance of the grand anniversary in promoting national pride.

At the Lao National Assembly office, President of the Lao NA Thongsing Thammavong also received 240 delegates of Lao

expatriates from around the world.


Vietnam congratulates Laos on National Day


Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee, Pham Quang Nghi, has congratulated the Lao leaders and people on the 35th anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Vientiane’s 450th anniversary.

At a reception for international delegations on the occasion at the Lao Presidential Palace in Vientiane on November 18, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Somsavad Lengsavath said that under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Laos has achieved constant growth and international integration while improving its people’s living conditions.

This is due to the Lao people’s efforts and international friends’ effective assistance, said the deputy PM.

Laos wants to make friends with all countries for people’s happiness and world peace, stability and development, he added.

Later in the day, Lao PM Bouasone Boupphavanh hosted a feast in honour of international delegations.


HCM City promotes cooperation with Russian localities


Ho Chi Minh City needs support and cooperation with Russia and its localities in science, technology, energy, oil and gas and other fields.

The statement was made by Le Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee while receiving Simanovskiy Leonid Yakovlevich, Vice Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for Energy on November 18.

Mr Tri said HCM City has established cooperative relations with many Russian localities and currently has a number of projects operating in both Vietnam and Russia.

As the country’s major economic hub, HCM City needs a highly developed scientific and technological foundation and energy sources, particularly electricity, to meet its economic development requirements, the city official said.

Vietnam, especially HCM City, is interested in a nuclear power plant construction project because of the urgent issue of energy sources for socio-economic development, emphasised Mr Tri.

Mr Yakovlevich said that his visit aims to further promote cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in energy and oil and gas.

At the working sessions with Vietnam’s relevant agencies, both sides discussed a nuclear power construction project in Vietnam, said Yakovlevich, adding that Russia is ready to exchange information, documents and its experience with Vietnam on nuclear power plant building.


Deputy Prime Minister Hung receives GICHD Director


Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung received the Director of Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), Stephan Husy in Hanoi on November 18.

Deputy PM Hung praised the centre for implementing a great deal of cooperation agreements with many countries, including Vietnam to overcome the consequences of the war.

Bomb and mine deactivation requires huge material, technical, and human resources and effective cooperation mechanisms. Therefore, Vietnam needs international support on this issue, said Mr Hung.

He said he hoped the centre will continue to help Vietnam carry out agreements on deactivating bombs, mines, and explosives soon.

Mr. Husy applauded Vietnam’s efforts in bomb and mine clearing and its 30-years of experience in this field while affirming that his centre is ready to assist the country in demining as well as in other activities.
