NA Chairman receives Lao, Japanese ambassadors
National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung received Lao Ambassador Somphon Synchaleun and Japanese Ambassador Yasuaki Tanizaki in separate meetings in Ha Noi yesterday, Oct 19.

Ambassador Somphon Synchaleun said the Lao Party and State were preparing to celebrate the anniversary in 2012, contributing to maintaining and promoting special sentiment between the two nations.
In his meeting with Japanese Ambassador Yasuaki Tanizaki, Chairman Hung highly valued the Japanese Government's continued provision of official development assistance (ODA) to Viet Nam, focusing on infrastructure development, human resources, developing support industries, environmental protection and climate change resilience.
He noted the co-operation in construction of a nuclear power plant, an express railway and rare earth exploitation, asking the two sides to seek solutions in the spirit of ensuring safety and efficiency.
Ambassador Yasuaki Tanizaki said Japan wanted to co-operate with Viet Nam in nuclear power and was willing to share experience in the field.
Lao Peace Committee delegation visits Viet Nam
The Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity would work closely with the Viet Nam Peace Committee at multilateral forums and jointly organised activities for the Year of Solidarity and Friendship between the two countries in 2012.
Chairman of the Lao committee Khamphan Simmalavong made this statement at a meeting yesterday with Le Hong Anh, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat.
Khamphan Simmalavong briefed Anh on the delegation's activities and co-operative results between the two committees.
Anh congratulated the Lao people for their achievements in national renewal, defence and construction, especially the important outcomes achieved in the first year of the implementation of the 9th Lao Party Congress Resolution.
He affirmed that Viet Nam would join with Lao efforts to unceasingly maintain and foster the Viet Nam-Laos special solidarity.
The Vietnamese official spoke highly of the Lao delegation's visit to Viet Nam and co-operative results between the two committees in recent years.
Anh said he wished the two committees would continue to increase co-ordination and support each other at international and regional multilateral forums, contributing to regional and global activities relating to peace, security, climate change and the protection of Mekong River water resources.
Theoretical Council to review renewal process
A ceremony to mark the establishment of the Central Theoretical Council for the 2011-15 period was held yesterday, Oct 19.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Council Dinh The Huynh, who is also secretary of the Party Central Committee, said that the Council had been affirmed as a continuing advisory agency for the Party Central Committee and the Political Bureau on political science, which played an important role in planning and developing Party policies and State-level programmes.
In this period, the council would focus on reviewing theoretical and practical issues in the 30 years of renewal, and building the platform for national construction in the transitional period to socialism.
The council would also concentrate on providing theoretical-practical basis for draft documents to be presented in the 12th Party Congress, and clarifying issues on the ruling party, the socialist-oriented market economy, cultural and social development and national defence strategies.
On the same day, the council conducted its first session, with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirming the important role of theory and theoretical work.
The council had played a pivotal role as an advisory agency and had attracted experts and scientists majoring in politically theoretical issues directly involved in planning the Party and State's guidelines and policies, he said.
Trong stressed that it was important to study theory from practice and suggested five important research aspects in the time to come.
Firstly, the council needed to study the nature, characteristics and trends of today's transforming world.
Secondly, theoretical studies were needed to continue refining socialist-oriented issues and other issues involved.
Thirdly, it should focus on a theoretical and practical review of sustainable development and renewal of the national growth model.
Fourthly, the relationship between building socialism and protecting the socialist country should be examined.
Finally, it should focus on researching issues on the ruling party, the law-gorverned State and political reform.
RoK promotes economic cooperation with VN
The Republic of Korea wishes to further cooperate with Vietnam in economic development in the future.
The statement was made by the RoK Minister of Knowledge Economy Choi Joong-Kyung, during his meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Hanoi on Oct. 19.
Speaking at the meeting, Phuc expressed his joy at the fine development in cooperative ties between Vietnam and the RoK, while the two countries are moving towards the 20 th anniversary of Vietnam-RoK diplomatic relations in 2012.
He affirmed the strong potential for economic cooperation between the two countries, saying they should promote further cooperation in this field in order to adjust the trade balance and fully tap strengths of the two countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister spoke highly of major cooperative fields agreed by the two sides, including trade, supporting industry, establishment of a technology training centre, resources training for industry and atomic power use for peaceful purposes.
Choi Joong-Kyung said numerous RoK enterprises have recently arrived in Vietnam to seek business opportunities, on the occasion of the 13th Meeting of the Vietnam-RoK Economic Cooperation Committee in Hanoi.
The Vietnam-based RoK businesses also hosted workshops to review and assess recent cooperative results between businesses of the two countries. This proved that RoK enterprises are very interested in developing their business in Vietnam, Choi said.
Deputy PM Phuc attends China-ASEAN Expo 2011
A Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, has arrived in Guangxi, China to participate in China-ASEAN Expo 2011 (CAEXPO) from October 20-24.
During its stay, the delegation will attend the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, meet with Chinese leaders and visit some economic, high-tech industrial and educational establishments.
Under the theme of cooperating to protect the environment, the 8th annual event marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations and the China-ASEAN Year of Friendly Exchanges.
This year’s expo draws 3,000 businesses from China and ASEAN countries with a total of 4,600 stalls.
Vietnam has 192 stalls set up by 120 businesses to showcase different kinds of farm produce, processed food, wood and furniture, fine art and handicrafts, consumer goods, tourism products, investment and trade services.
Vietnam friendship delegation visits Iran
A delegation of the Vietnam-Iran Friendship Association (VIFA) led by its head Dang Nhu Loi has paid a visit to Iran at the invitation of the Iran-Vietnam Friendship Association (IVFA).
The delegation held working sessions with IVFA to review recent cooperative activities between the two associations and draw up plans for bilateral cooperation in the years to come.
The two associations’ leaders agreed on a number of measures to provide information, with the aim of facilitating business cooperation between the two countries’ enterprises.
The two sides planned to cooperate in organising a Vietnamese Culture Week in Iran, an Iranian Culture Week in Vietnam and a Vietnam-Iran business forum and providing a number of scholarships for Vietnamese students to study in Iran.
In the framework of the visit, the VIFA delegation met with the Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Iranian Supreme Leader’s Office and leaders of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Mines and Industries; the Chamber of Commerce Industries and Mines, and the National Library.
Earlier, the delegation attended the 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian in Tehran.
At the meeting, the delegation expressed the viewpoint of the Vietnamese State and people’s support for the just struggle of Palestinian people for an independent Palestine state with all basic rights and hoped that Palestine would soon become an official member of the United Nations.
