Japanese experience on constitution shared
An international workshop on the role of constitution for stability and development of a nation and experience from Japan’s constitution took place in Hanoi on September 20.

It was jointly organised by the Law Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam, the Editorial Board on drafting constitution amendment and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
In his opening speech, Chairman of the law Committee Phan Trung Ly underlined the significance of the event, saying that it provides participants with a chance to study constitution and its role for development of any country.
He said, the constitution amendment is of great importance for each country and requires to be carried out carefully, strictly and scientifically on the basis of reality and selective reference from domestic and foreign legislative experience.
At the workshop, representatives from Japan also provided information and shared experiences in law making and constitutional building in their country, focusing on subjects such as the significance of constitution, the human rights, the state apparatus organisation, and the relation between the legislative, executive and judiciary bodies and the local authorities.
Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yasuaki Tanizaki affirmed his country will continue to cooperate and share experience with Vietnam in the field.
Experiences shared at the event are expected to contribute to the constitution amendment of Vietnam in the future.
Vietnam, New Zealand see to naval cooperation
The navies of Vietnam and New Zealand have made effective cooperation in the past years, especially in the area of personnel training, the two countries’ naval officials have said.
The remark was made during a working session between Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Admiral Nguyen Van Hien and Chief of the Royal New Zealand Navy, Rear Admiral Tony Parr, during the latter’s visit from September 20-23.
The two officials exchanged views on issues of mutual concern and discussed measures to strengthen ties between the two countries’ naval forces.
They also highly appreciated the fine development of bilateral defence cooperation.
The two defence ministries have established an annual bilateral consultation mechanism at the level of heads of International Affairs Departments. New Zealand is also a partner of the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM+).
EU delegation visit Dak Lak
An European Union (EU) delegation led by ambassador Fanz Jessen has visited Dak Lak province to learn about the local people’s living conditions.
At a working session on September 19, leaders of the Dak Lak provincial People’s Committee briefed the guests on the current socio-economic growth and affirmed that the lives of ethnic minority people have become ever more stable.
They said the focus on priority is on disadvantaged areas in mountainous areas inhabited by ethnic minority groups.
The delegation was pleased to gain a better understanding of the real situation, particularly accurate information on religious freedom practice in the locality.
Vietnamese National Assembly deputies visit Laos
A delegation of National Assembly deputies from central Thanh Hoa province is visiting Laos from September 19-26 to strengthen ties with the country’s local NA deputies.
During the visit, the delegation was received by Lao NA Vice Chairman Saysonphon Phomvihan, who expressed wish that the NA deputies of both countries will further boost the sharing of experience and information to fulfil tasks entrusted by their people, thus helping foster the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos .
Le Nam , head of the Thanh Hoa delegation, briefed the host about the outcomes of a working session with the delegation of NA deputies representing Vientiane capital city’s Zone 1.
The two sides discussed measures to improve the efficiency of their operations in supervising law enforcement and corruption prevention, he said.
Defence minister greets Cuban guest
Minister of National Defence, Gen. Phung Quang Thanh received Cuban Deputy Minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces, Sen. Lieut. Gen Joaquin Quintas Sola, in Hanoi on September 19.
General Thanh expressed his delight at the development of bilateral defence ties, especially since the two countries signed an agreement on defence cooperation.
He said Vietnam’s military policy is of peace and self-defence, adding that Vietnam does not join any military alliance organisation, allows foreign countries to establish military base or use its territory against other countries.
Mr. Sola informed the host of the outcomes of his talks with Deputy Minister of National Defence, Sen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh.
The two sides also discussed measures to further promote friendship and defence cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, for the benefit of the two peoples, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
