Vietnam’s anti-corruption initiative for 2011 introduced
Vietnam’s Anti-Corruption Initiative programme for 2011 was introduced at a seminar in Hanoi on December 21.
The programme, themed “Enhancing public integrity
and law enforcement to combat corruption effectively” includes a creativity
contest and a knowledge exchange. It aims to seek and assist potential
initiatives that can be developed in localities.
At the seminar, the President of the Hanoi Psychology Scientific Association, Dr
Nguyen Tung Lam, recommended solutions to prevent and combat corruption in
education, including the establishment of an organisation to publicise school’s
financial activities and assess education quality.
The Deputy Director of the Research and Training Centre for Community
Development, Tran Thi Thu Ha, highlighted the role of non-governmental and
social organisations as well as women, farmers and education associations in
putting forward practical initiatives to combat corruption.
The Deputy Head of the Government Inspectorate’s Anti-Corruption Department, Ngo
Manh Hung, emphasised the need to have a commendation policy for those involved
in fighting corruption.
Speaker of Indonesia People’s Consultative Assembly concludes visit to Vietnam
The Speaker of the Indonesia People’s Consultative Assembly (MDR), Taufiq Kiemas left Hanoi on December 21, concluding their three-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Phu Trong.
During his visit to Vietnam, Speaker Taufiq Kiemas had meetings with Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Phu Trong and met with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
The two sides acknowledged positive development of Vietnamese-Indonesia comprehensive cooperation and traditional friendship. Both affirmed their determination to make every effort to tighten the two countries’ relationship.
They also agreed to boost cooperation relations in such fields as economics, trade, and investment, push towards agreements and promote a closer coordination between the two countries within the framework of ASEAN, in order to maintain peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Speaker Taufiq Kiemas and his entourage also visited Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, Military History Museum and the Temple of Literature.
Prime Minister Dung receives outgoing Thai ambassador
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung applauded the contributions that Thailand ambassador to Viet Nam Pisanu Chanvitan had made during his working term in the country.
Speaking with the outgoing ambassador at a farewell party yesterday, Dec 21, Dung said Viet Nam-Thailand relations and friendship had developed strongly, especially in politics and external affairs.
The two countries had always supported each other in international and regional forums. They had also achieved good and close development steps in economic co-operation in the past years, said the Prime Minister.
Dung acknowledged the ambassador's contributions and hoped that in his new position, the diplomat would continue to help promote relations between the two countries.
The outgoing ambassador said that Thailand's Government had always attached great importance to boosting ties with Viet Nam and wanted to continue to receive support and co-operation from Viet Nam.
South Korea funds provincial technological college
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will allocate 11.5 billion won (approximately US$10 million) for the construction of the Viet Nam-RoK Technological College in the northern province of Bac Giang.
It will also send experts to the locality to provide technical consultancy for Vietnamese personnel during the implementation and management of the construction phase.
These items were agreed by KOICA Vice President Ahn Dong-won and President of the Bac Giang Province People's Committee Bui Van Hai in Bac Giang yesterday, Dec 21.
Located on an area of 9,100 sq. m, the college will provide training on occupations related to electricity, electronics, IT, and automobile repair and assembly skills, from 2013.
It is expected to generate skilled technicians for industrial zones in Bac Giang and localities nationwide.
