President Truong Tan Sang worked yesterday with the Ha Noi Party's Standing Board on how it has handled the implementation of the Central Committee Communist Party resolution on party building and a Politburo directive on following President Ho Chi Minh's moral example yesterday.

 

The Standing Board has put forth measures to repair shortcomings, improve the quality of political and ideological education, enhance Party leadership, and to strengthen its fight against corruption.

Through learning and following President Ho Chi Minh's moral example, Party members and the people have raised their awareness of Uncle Ho's beliefs, morality and lifestyle, thus improving their own revolutionary morality and their ability to resist an individualistic mentality.

Addressing the function, President Sang stressed that the positive results achieved by the Municipal Party Standing Committee in their implementation of the criticism and self-criticism will become an example to follow by all Party members and people nationwide.

The President asked Ha Noi to fix its shortcomings and to uphold positive results for further implementing the resolution on Party building.

He also urged Ha Noi to listen more carefully to public opinion and to combine the implementation of the Party resolution and the Politburo directive with political tasks, thereby boosting socio-economic development, Party building and the administrative system.

Sympathy to China quake victims

Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on July 22 sent a message of sympathy to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi over the huge human and property losses caused by the recent earthquake in Dingxi City, Gansu Province.

The 6.6-magnitude quake occurred in China’s northwest province on July 22, killing at least 89 local people.

Vietnam welcomes RoK investors, says NA Chairman

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has reiterated Vietnam’s policy of opening the door to foreign companies, including those from the Republic of Korea, to do business in the country.

Hung told Kumho Asiana and Lotte executives at a reception in Seoul on July 23 that leading RoK economic groups, including Kumho Asiana and Lotte, have made a significant contribution to strengthening the strategic cooperation partnership between Vietnam and the RoK.

He expressed hope that Kumho Asiana and Lotte will continue expanding their investment in Vietnam’s aviation, transport, tyre manufacturing, construction, and services industries, while paying attention to human resource training and technology transfer to their Vietnamese counterparts.

The National Assembly and Government of Vietnam will try to create a sound business environment for RoK companies to operate in the country, said Hung.

He thanked the two groups for having been involved in various social and cultural programmes in Vietnam, including establishing a scholarship fund and building compassionate houses for needy people in Vietnam, with a total cost of up to millions of US dollars.

Kumho Asiana Chairman Park Sam-ku and Lotte CEO Shin Dong-bin hailed Vietnam’s open-door policy and vowed to speed up their investment projects on schedule.

They assured Hung that the two groups will increase their investment in Vietnam, and proposed that the National Assembly and government of Vietnam offer more incentives to businesses.  

NA Chairman Hung, who is on an official visit to Seoul, held talks with his RoK counterpart Kang Chang-hee and met with Prime Minister Chung Hong-won on July 22.

He also met with representatives of the Korea Telecom and Samsung Electronics to encourage their investment in Vietnam.

Defence Minister bids farewell to Indian Ambassador

Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh on July 22 received Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae, who came to say good bye at the end of his tenure in Vietnam.

Minister Thanh spoke highly of Ambassador Ranjit Rae’s contributions to fostering the friendly and cooperative ties between Vietnam and India in various areas, including cooperation in national defence.

He expressed his hope that the diplomat will continue his contributions to the relationship between the two countries in his new position.

For his part, Ambassador Ranjit Rae laid emphasis on new developments in the friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and India, especially in national defence and security.

He praised Vietnam’s efforts in establishing close links with other countries in and outside the region, and thanked the Defence Ministry for creating favourable conditions for him to fulfill his tasks in Vietnam.

Congratulations to ruling Japanese party on election victory

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Luong Thanh Nghi on July 22 congratulated the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on its sweeping victory during the July 21 Upper House election.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s ruling coalition of LDP and its smaller partner New Komeito have a total of 135 seats in the 242-seat chamber, well above the threshold of 129 necessary to control all standing committees in the chamber.

“We believe that the Japanese nation will continue to develop strongly and the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership will be further strengthened, meeting the interests and aspirations of the two nations and contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world at large,” said Nghi.

Thai province boosts ties with Long An

A delegation from Thailand’s province of Trat led by its Governor Anpruang Benjawan paid a working visit to the southern province of Long An on July 22 to further boost ties with the Vietnamese locality.

At the reception for the Thai delegation, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Do Huu Lam briefed the guests on his province’s socio-economic situation.

Long An has 464 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total investment capital of 3 billion USD, Lam noted.

Of the projects, Thailand contributes 19, totalling 219 million USD in capital. Based in the province’s key economic zones, they specialise in canned foods, fruit and cattle feed, he added.

For her part, Benjawan said her province and Long An have several similar strengths in tourism and fisheries. She wants both provinces to enhance mutual cooperation like what Trat is doing with the southern province of Kien Giang.

On the same day, the guests visited some Thai enterprises investing in Long An’s Ben Luc District.
