Vietnam, Cambodia boost military ties

The Vietnamese Government, army and people always attach importance to developing solidarity and friendship with the people and army of Cambodia, a high-ranking military officer has said.

Lieut. Gen. Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), told General Hing Bun Hieng, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Cambodian Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Guard Force during their meeting in Hanoi on November 28.

The defence cooperation has been effectively implemented in many areas, significantly contributing to bolstering the friendship between the two countries and armies, Ty said.

General Hing Bun Hieng informed his host of the results of his meeting with a delegation of the Security Safeguarding Department of the VPA’s General Department of Politics, led by Major General Le Thanh Phuong.

President meets with HCM City voters

President Truong Tan Sang and National Assembly deputies in Ho Chi Minh City on Nov. 28 met with voters in District 1 and at the Ho Chi Minh City Law University to report on the results of the 13 th NA’s second session.

At the meeting, many voters frankly pointed out shortcomings in the operations of the NA, as well as in State management and lawmaking activities, especially the poor quality of transport works, excessive traffic accidents, slow administrative reforms, increasing environmental pollution and more complex corruption.

They also suggested the NA consider carefully the building of nuclear power plants and conduct comprehensive inspections on the Dong Nai 6 and 6A hydropower projects.

Concurring with the voters, President Sang said that lawmaking quality has yet to meet requirements, with laws lacking decrees guiding implementation.

On the issue of nuclear power plants, the State leader affirmed that the NA will carefully consider these projects, to both meet national energy demand and ensure safety while implementing the projects, with a view to turning Vietnam into an industrialised country in 2020.

Many voters at the HCM City Law University also expressed their wish to contribute ideas to amendments to the 1992 Constitution.

Deputy PM meets voters in Bac Giang

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan had a meeting with voters from Division 3 in Military Zone No 1, Division 365 of the Air Force and Air Defense Force and other army units in Lang Giang district of the northern province of Bac Giang on November 27.

The meeting took place after the second session of the 13th National Assembly. Voters insisted that the State allocate more land for building houses for soldiers and storing modern weapons and military equipment.

They also proposed improving the quality of military recruitment, generating jobs for those who have accomplished their military service terms and devising solutions to overcome the consequences of environmental pollution in rural areas.

The Deputy PM informed the voters of the Party and State’s guidelines on protecting national sovereignty and interests. He also talked about a national housing programme submitted to the government by the Ministry of Construction, a vocational training programme for rural workers and solutions to associate vocational training with job generation, especially for those who have fulfilled their military service terms.

Vietnam, India strengthen military cooperation

The increased exchange of information between the military research agencies of Vietnam and India will strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries, said a senior military officer.

Lieut. Gen. Tran Quang Khue, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, was speaking at a reception for Lieut. Gen. Sumer Singh, general director of the Planning Department of the Indian Army in Hanoi on November 28.

Lieut. Gen. Khue applauded the results of the earlier working session between the Planning Department of the Indian Army and the Military Strategy Institute of Vietnam.

Lieut. Gen. Sumer Singh said that he was delighted at the results of his visit.

Vietnam attends United Russia Party Congress

A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by Vuong Thua Phong, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, has attended the ruling United Russia Party (URP) Congress. 

On the sidelines of the event, Phong met with URP officials who spoke highly of Vietnam’s recent developments and affirmed that the URP attaches importance to promoting relations with the CPV. 

They expressed their belief that the ties between the two parties will make a contribution to enhancing the Russia-Vietnam partnership. 

The United Russia Party Congress, which opened in Moscow on November 27, drew nearly 10,000 delegates and 27 international delegations. It focused on the official nomination of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin as a candidate for the presidential elections scheduled for March 4, 2012. 

Prime Minister Putin called on Russian voters to support the URP and President Dmitry Medvedev who leads candidates to run for seats in the State Duma (Lower House) elections to take place on December 4.
