NA Chairman visits Vung Ang economic zone

The National Assembly and Government are seeking suitable measures to speed up the development pace of Vung Ang economic zone and other industrial and economic zones nationwide, affirmed NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

NA Chairman Hung made the statement at a working session with managers, engineers and workers at Vung Ang Economic Zone, in Ky Anh district of central Ha Tinh province on May 2.

The zone’s management board proposed the NA pass a law on building and developing economic zones, and the Government issue preferential mechanisms to encourage investment in hi-tech and clean technology industries.

For his part, NA Chairman Hung asked investors, management board and local authorities to be more active in surmounting difficulties to speed up the implementation of projects, to bring them into operation soon.

Located on the North-South traffic axis and the East-West Economic Corridor, the Vung Ang Economic Zone now accommodates 153 enterprises with a total registered capital of more than 16 billion USD. A number of projects that are operational include the Son Duong Formosa steel and seaport complex, the 1,200MW Vung Ang 1 thermal power plant. Several large scale projects are completing investment procedures, such as 12.47 billion USD oil refinery and a 5 billion USD steel plant.

President meets voters in HCM City

On May 2, State President Truong Tan Sang met with voters in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, to hear their opinions and complaints.

At the meeting, voters recommended that concerned agencies in the Party and State political system improve the quality of judicial reform and modernise the legal document system.

On anti-corruption, voters said that combating corruption must start from the central agency level with strong coordination, while highlighting the need to enhance the supervision of leaders.

The voters expressed their wish that the National Assembly, its agencies and each deputy increase supervision of activities of authorities at all levels, as well as of ministries, economic groups and businesses. They also urged the strict supervision of the settlement of complaints and recommendations by voters.

Many voters complained about difficulties in daily life, and noted that some policies are no longer relevant and need to be adjusted to adapt to the real situation.

Vietnam, Laos’ women unions boost ties

A cooperative agreement for 2012-2017 period was signed on May 2 between the Women’s Unions of Vietnam and Laos, on the occasion of the Vietnam visit of a Lao delegation led by the Lao Women’s Union (LWU) President Sisay Leudetmounsone.

Under the agreement, the unions will continue strengthening information exchange on policies and directions of the Parties and States, as well as the developmental situation of women in both countries.

The two sides will exchange high-level delegations while promoting mutual assistance, and shared skills and experience in various ways and fields. They also pledged to support each other at regional and international forums.

Earlier the same day, the Vietnam and Lao’s women unions held talks to assess the achievement of the cooperative agreement for 2007-2010 period.

On the occasion, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan presented the Friendship Order to Sisay Leudetmounsone for her significant contribution to strengthening the sound relationship between the two Parties, States and Women Unions.

Several leaders of the LWU were awarded the “For the development of Vietnamese women” insignia, the noblest award of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Vietnam’s Central Women’s Training School was honoured with the Laos’ Labour Order second class, while some Vietnamese officials were presented with insignia from the LWU.
