Vietnam, Sudan news agencies ink deal

They will also expand cooperation at international forums and organise visits for professional exchange between leaders, reporters and editors of both news agencies.
An agreement to this effect was signed between Vietnam News Agency (VNA) General Director Tran Mai Huong and Sudanese Ambassador to Vietnam Adil Ibrahim Mustafa Ahmed, on behalf of the Sudan News Agency (SUNA).
Both signatories expressed their belief that the agreement reached between the two news agencies would open a new channel to consolidate friendship and mutual understanding between Vietnam and Sudan.
The document was expected to boost cooperation between the two nations, especially in politics, economics, trade and culture.
Cuban veterans visit Vietnam
The Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, Lieutenant General Tran Quang Khue, received a delegation of Cuban veterans in Hanoi on Nov. 3.
The senior Vietnamese officer welcomed the Cuban
delegation, saying he believed that their visit would contribute to
strengthening mutual understanding and boost traditional cooperation and
friendship between the Vietnamese army and the Cuban revolutionary armed forces.
The head of the Cuban delegation expressed hope that the long-lasting
traditional friendship between the two militaries would be further consolidated.
National Border Committee holds 35th anniversary
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended a ceremony in Hanoi on November 3 for the 35th anniversary of the National Border Committee under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Over the past 35 years, the committee has overcome numerous difficulties to protect the country’s sovereignty and national interests.
The committee helped to settle the land border issue and demarcate the Gulf of Tonkin with China, finish the demarcation and planting of border markers on the border with Laos, and sign a treaty on border demarcation with Cambodia in 1985.
The committee also played an important role in the signing of an agreement on maritime demarcation with Thailand in 1997 and another agreement on demarcating continental shelves with Indonesia in 2003.
It submitted to the United Nations a report on defining the boundaries beyond Vietnam’s continental shelf.
In addition, the committee has advised the government on management of the country’s territories and borders and in raising public awareness of these issues.
The Party and State have awarded the committee many orders and medals for various endeavours.
