Vietnam consistent with human rights protection
The protection of human rights in Vietnam is consistent with its policies enshrined in law and realized through various mechanisms.
Vietnamese Ambassador Le Hoai Trung, Chief of the Vietnamese permanent mission to the United Nations (UN), made this statement on April 2 while presiding over the first session of a conference held by the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights at the UN headquarters in New York.
Vietnam has joined most UN conventions on human rights as well as those related to politics, economics, culture, society, women and children, he said.
The fact that Vietnam is taking part in this current UN conference is testimony to its consistent policy in this area and demonstrates its commitment to international duties.
The two-day conference aimed to consult with UN member countries and international organizations before devising a human rights report for the UN General Assembly.

Modern police force vital to VN's security
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Monday stressed the importance of building a professional and modern police force to fulfil any assigned tasks in the current context.
He made the request while paying a working visit to the Public Security Force Building General Department, saying this was essential to ensure political stability and security.
Major General Tran Ba Thieu, head of the unit, reported on the department's achievements during the development period of over a year, emphasising its recommendations on developing a professional security force for the Central Police Party Committee.
At the meeting, Party General Secretary Trong praised the police for fulfilling their duties to maintain social security and a peaceful environment for national construction and development.
Trong said the police force played a key role in making recommendations to the Party and State to protect the nation's interests and promote socio-economic development. The police force should take initiatives to implement the Party's resolutions, especially the resolution of the fourth plenum of the Party Central Committee, which includes action plans to positively change the force.
He added that the police must keep detecting, preventing and repelling all subversive schemes by hostile forces in order to protect national security in the future.
