FM sends condolences to China

Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on July 4 sent a message of condolence to his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi, over recent natural disasters.

The condolences came after floods and earthquakes hit many Chinese localities, causing serious losses in human life and property.

Top legislature congratulates RoK’s parliamentary speaker

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on July 4 sent a congratulatory message to the newly-elected Speaker of the Republic of Korea’s National Assembly Kang Chang Hee.

Kang, Saenuri Party Representative, won 195 of 283 votes cast during a secret ballot to earn the designation during the NA’s first plenary session on July 2.

Vietnamese, Cambodian militaries foster ties

Vietnam’s Military Zone 5 has gifted Military Zone 1 in Cambodia a new headquarters building and an access road in Stung Streng, 300 km north of Phnom Penh.

When addressing the inauguration ceremony, General Pol Saroun, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, thanked the Vietnamese Government and army for their kind support.

He said the present is a symbol of the friendship and traditional solidarity between the two armies and peoples. In particular, the cooperation shown between Military Zone 5 in Vietnam and Military Zone 1 in Cambodia has significantly helped Zone 1 to ensure the country’s national security and territorial integrity.

The Deputy Commander of Military Zone 5, Major General Nguyen Quy Nhon, thanked the Cambodian Armed Forces, especially Military Zone 1 for their cooperation in maintaining security and order along the shared border.

Over the years, Military Zone 1, which covers Cambodia’s northeastern provinces and shares a border with the Central Highlands region in Vietnam, has built up close relations with Zone 5 and the Central Highlands region of Vietnam, while actively helping to repatriate the remains of Vietnamese martyrs.

Costa Rican diplomat visits Vietnam

Costa Rica Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship Carlos Roverssi is on a visit to Vietnam from July 1-7 on the occasion of attending the Vietnam-Latin America Forum on Investment and Trade.

On July 4, Roverssi and his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Phuong Nga held the first political consultation between the two foreign ministries.

At the event, Nga affirmed that Vietnam wanted to boost the friendship and cooperation with Costa Rica in various fields, including politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, energy, oil and gas, telecommunications and agriculture.

She suggested the two sides increase the exchange of visits by officials at all levels, including businesses in order to strengthen mutual understanding.

The Costa Rica diplomat congratulated Vietnam on its achievements during national construction and development. He agreed that the two sides should seek measures to foster bilateral ties in line with their strengths and areas of potential development. The Government of Costa Rica will consider recognising Vietnam as a market economy, he affirmed.

After exchanging ideas on several international and regional issues of common concern, the two Deputy Ministers agreed to strengthen coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums, helping raise the two countries’ regional positions and on the world stage.

At the meeting, Nga and her Costa Rica counterpart signed an agreement between the two Governments on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports.

Earlier, from July 1-3, Deputy Minister Carlos Roverssi visited Ho Chi Minh City where he met with Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Manh Ha, and toured the Saigon Intel Hi-tech Zone and the Tan Cang Saigon Company.
