President praises rural development in Thai Binh

State President Truong Tan Sang has praised the Red River delta province of Thai Binh for remarkable achievements it has made in modernising its rural areas.

During a working session with provincial authorities, President Sang affirmed that the modernisation of rural areas will help further improve the living conditions of people and boost socio-economic development of the country.

He expressed his hopes that the province will speed up the process in the coming time.

While in Thai Binh, he visited Thanh Tan Commune in Kien Xuong District to see how this rural area has changed from the modernisation process. Thanh Tan commune is expected to set a good example for other localities in the country to follow.

The same day, President Sang offered incense to Tran Kings at their Temple in Tien Duc Commune, Hung Ha District.

In 2011, Thai Binh obtained comprehensive achievements in many fields, including an economic growth of 10 percent and per-capita income of 20.7 million VND (about 1,000 USD) a year.

Thai Binh is one of localities to take the lead in efforts to raise quality of education. Infrastructure for schools and hospitals in the province have been ceaselessly improved.

NA Chairman attends investment conference in Nghe An

VietNamNet Bridge – On February 5, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung joined an investment promotion conference in the central province of Nghe An along with nearly 400 leaders, economic managers, researchers and local and foreign entrepreneurs.

This is the fourth time Nghe An has organized such a conference in President Ho Chi Minh’s native land, aiming to attract more investment from Vietnamese and foreign businesses.

At the three previous conferences, the province gained 31 domestic and foreign invested projects with a total registered capital of VND37,000 billion, most of which were carried out in 2008 and 2009 with positive and effective results.

Provincial leaders and representatives from the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) highlighted Nghe An’s potential, advantages and resources for investment and development, noting that its policy is to create favourable conditions and share interests. They also introduced investment reforms in priority areas for clean technology,high-tech and FDI projects.

Delegates proposed opinions on enhancing regional connectivity for investment to mobilize capital and develop markets in the north-central region and the whole country.

They said stronger measures are needed to speed up land clearance and simplify investment formalities to facilitate business operations.

Chairman of the Nghe An provincial People's Committee, Ho Duc Phuoc, said his province is making breakthroughs in administrative reforms to deal with weaknesses in calling for investment and creating the best possible conditions for investors to do business, in addition to revoking the permits of infeasible projects.

In his speech, NA Chairman Hung praised Nghe An’s efforts to fulfill all its 2011 socio- economic targets while calling on entrepreneurs in the province to renew their way of thinking to ensure effective investment by tapping all available resources and restructuring the provincial economy.

After the conference, Mr Hung witnessed the signing of investment projects to provide credit, capital and support social welfare between domestic and foreign businesses. These included a VND840 billion project of Thailand’s Royal Food Company, Ltd. to build a canned fish processing plant.

On the occasion, provincial leaders also granted investment licenses to three new investment projects with a total capitalization of more than VND825 billion.

Earlier in the morning on the same day, Chairman Hung, along with Nghe An leaders and representatives from the BIDV and the Party Committee for centrally-run businesses, offered incense at the Quang Trung Emperor’s temple and laid wreaths at the Ho Chi Minh Monument in Vinh City.

Nam Dinh urged to tap internal strength for sustainable economic growth

Nam Dinh needs to tap into its available potential to ensure sustainable economic development, said State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan during her working visit to the northern province on February 5.

At a meeting with provincial leaders, Ms Doan praised the efforts the Party committee, administration and people of Nam Dinh have made in the past to develop infrastructure, improve the quality of human resources and enhance administrative reforms to boost sustainable economic development.

The Secretary of the Nam Dinh provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Pham Hong Ha said, despite facing economic difficulties in 2011, his province fulfilled and surpassed its 15 key socio-economic targets with export earnings reaching US$322.4 million, US$42.4 million more than the set target. Its budget revenue reached US$9.5 million, 43.1 percent over the estimates, and total social investment capital hit US$740 million.

Last year, 47 percent of the province’s communes and townships launched movements to build new rural areas, putting Nam Dinh at the forefront of localities in the country in terms of the quality and quantity of units implementing such programmes.

During the visit, Vice President Doan and her delegation also offered incense at Tran Temple in Nam Dinh city’s Loc Vuong precinct.

NA Chairman hails Ha Tinh’s achievements

The central province of Ha Tinh has fulfilled its assigned tasks for 2011, says Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung.

NA Chairman Hung made the statement while working with the people and authorities of Ha Tinh province on February 4. He said he believes that Ha Tinh will be able to meet its development targets for 2012, giving fresh impetus to the implementation of its 2011-2015 socio-economic development plan as set by the provincial Party Committee.

To deal with the challenges that will result from global economic difficulties in 2012, which are likely to affect Vietnam’s effort to maintain a high economic growth rate, contain inflation, and stabilize its macroeconomy, Mr Hung asked the province to thoroughly study the real situation in order to create appropriate criteria for socio-economic development.

He also urged Ha Tinh to improve the quality of Party building by sharpening Party members’ capacity to meet the demands for socio-economic development in the new context.

According to Secretary Ha Tinh provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh, Ha Tinh's great efforts have paid off in significant initial achievements in 2011. The economic growth rate reached 11.7 percent and annual per capita income was estimated at more than VND16 million. Export revenues reached US$70 million while total social investment was VND9,966 billion. The provincial budget earned VND2,202 billion, social security and national defence were maintained and development was seen in culture, education, and healthcare.

In 2012, the central province has set a target to increase economic growth to 12-13.5 percent and budget revenue to VND2,720 billion. It also aims to reduce the number of poor households to 16 percent.
