President meets with mobile police force

President Sang spoke highly of incessant development and great achievements of the mobile police force after the two years of implementation of a government project on building a mobile police force.

The President said along with maintaining public order and security nationwide, the force help protect through activities of important political events.

President Sang suggested that the force should continue to study and promote implementation of the Party and State’s guidelines on national security and social order.

He also suggested the force consolidate in terms of politics and ideology, raise skills for staff to make the force an important part of the people’s public security force.

Representatives from the Command and its subsidiary units expressed their determination to improve and set up new operation projects, in order to enhance their crime-fighting ability and fulfill all assigned tasks.

Vietnam–Denmark strengthen legislative ties

A delegation from the Danish Parliament, led by its Speaker Mogens Lykketoft  on March 6 worked with a delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly Committees, led by Tran Van Hang, Head of the Committee of External Relations.

Hang highly valued the Danish delegation’s visit, saying it will promote and deepen cooperation between the two legislative bodies and the two countries.

The visit will open new opportunities to boost bilateral, regional and international cooperation, he said.

Hang highlighted the development of Vietnam-EU relations and said he hopes Denmark will be the gateway for Vietnam to cooperate with European countries.

The two sides discussed the organizational structure and functions of their Parliaments as well as issues of mutual concern. They agreed to share experiences in boosting bilateral relations, fulfilling socio-economic development targets, and curbing inflation.

ASEAN leader hails cooperation with Germany

ASEAN Deputy Secretary General for Corporate and Community Affairs Development Bagas Hapsoro has hailed Germany as one of the most important development partners of ASEAN, with a total funding of 48 million EUR to the bloc’s projects.

Addressing the first ASEAN – Germany strategic planning workshop in Indonesia on Mar. 5, Hapsoro said other than financial assistance, a significant part of Germany's contribution comes in the form of technical expertise, capacity building, upgrading skills, as well as project management to meet ASEAN’s development demand during regional and global integration.

The event focused discussion on the outcomes of the ASEAN-German cooperative programme in the fields of forestry and climate change, ASEAN’s economic integration, and enhancing public-private sector engagement in the ASEAN region, both at national and regional levels.

Participants also gave recommendations on the promotion of bilateral cooperation in future.

Hapsoro highlighted the significance of the event, especially at a time when Myanmar is preparing to undertake the Chair of ASEAN by 2014 and the ASEAN community is about to admit Timor Leste as its newest member.

France to advise reforms

Viet Nam and France should work together to enhance co-operation in administrative and judicial reform as well as improve the capacity and quality of civil service workers, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Speaking to the French Minister of Public Service Francois Sauvadet in Ha Noi yesterday, March 6, Phuc said the visit would contribute to developing co-operation between the two countries.

In response, the visiting minister said France was always willing to share its experiences with Viet Nam in administrative reform, with a focus on the modernisation of staff and improvement of training quality.


Vietnam to attend Seoul nuclear security summit

A Government representative will join heads of state of 53 countries and leaders of four international organisations at the second nuclear security summit to be held in Seoul, the Republic of Korea (RoK), on March 26-27.

Delegates will discuss measures to prevent nuclear terrorism and improve nuclear safety following the nuclear disaster in Japan’s Fukushima in 2011, according to RoK ambassador to Vietnam Ha Chan-ho.

Senior officials have finalised the Seoul Communiqué which will be submitted to the leaders for approval at this summit, said ambassador Ha.  

The communiqué outlines specific action plans to prevent nuclear terrorism, including minimising the stockpiling and use of dangerous nuclear materials such as highly enriched Uranium (HEU) and Plutonium, strengthening the safety of nuclear sites, and preventing the smuggling of nuclear materials.

It also highlights inter-correlation between security and nuclear safety, and the management of radioactive substances, which were not touched upon at the first summit in Washington, the US.

The RoK government is putting the final touch to preparations for the summit aimed at keeping the world safe and peaceful, free from nuclear terrorism, said the Korean diplomat.

Prior to the formal meeting, the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Industry Summit and 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Symposium will be held on March 23.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended the first summit in Washington, the US, in April 2010. His presentation highlighted Vietnam’s specific actions to ensure nuclear security, as well as countries’ responsibility toward the issue.

Dutch Rear Admiral welcomed in Vietnam

Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty who is Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence has received Matthieu Borsboom, Rear Admiral of the Commander of Royal Netherlands Navy on a visit to Vietnam from March 3-5.

At the reception in Hanoi on March 5, Senior Lieu. Gen. Do Ba Ty highlighted the results of cooperation between the Vietnam Navy Commander and the Commander of the Royal Netherlands Navy, as seen in personnel training, experience sharing in maritime safety and security, shipbuilding and issues of common concern.

He said the Dutch Rear Admiral’s visit aimed to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on national defence cooperation signed by the two ministries of national defence and promote cooperation, mutual understanding and trust between the two naval forces.

For his part, Rear Admiral Borsboom thanked the Vietnamese host for his warm welcome, saying that he was very happy to visit a beautiful Vietnam.
