President meets with OV in Vladivostok
President Truong Tan Sang held a meeting on Sept 6 with overseas Vietnamese who are working and learning in Russia’s city of Vladivostok.

President Sang is in Russia to attend the 20th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.
The president listened to the opinions and wishes of overseas Vietnamese, and affirmed that the Party and State always pay attention to and take care of Vietnamese living in foreign countries.
He suggested that Vietnamese businesses in Russia need to take advantage of the coming Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiation between Vietnam and the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Alliance, adding that this will be a good opportunity for them to expand their operations in the country.
The State leader also asked the Vietnamese community to contribute to nurturing the two countries’ friendship and support each other in their lives.
DPRK National Day marked in Hanoi
The embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) hosted a ceremony to mark the 64th anniversary of the country’s National Day (Sept. 9) in Hanoi on Sept. 6.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ho Xuan Son said Vietnamese people believe that the DPRK people, under the leadership of its Workers’ Party, led by First Secretary Kim Jong-un, will record greater achievements in building a strong and prosperous socialist country.
Son emphasised that the Vietnamese Party, Government and people always attach importance to the traditional friendship and cooperation with the DPRK which was fostered by late Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Kim Il Sung and nurtured by both countries’ leaders and people.
DPRK Ambassador Kim Chang-Il said that the founding of the DPRK on Sept. 9, 1948, by Kim Il Sung, the great leader, is a historic event, opening up a new era in the country’s history.
The diplomat affirmed to exert his utmost to develop the two countries’ relations in politics, economics and culture in the time to come.
Foreign military attachés visit Naval High Command
A delegation of foreign military attachés in Vietnam paid a working visit to the Vietnam Naval High Command on Sept 6.
At the reception for the delegation, Admiral Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Defence Minister, highly valued the effective cooperation between the foreign military attachés and the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and the Vietnam People’s Navy.
The exchanges and meetings between the military attachés and the VPA help create the solidarity between the Vietnam Navy and the naval forces in the region and the world, Hien said.
After the reception, the delegation visited the 189 Shipbuilding Company under the Ministry of National Defence. In recent years, the company has signed many contracts to build ships for customers in Europe and Africa.
Indonesian House Speaker concludes Vietnam visit
Speaker of Indonesia’s House of Representatives Marzuki Alie who is also President of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) left Hanoi on the evening of September 5.
During his working visit, the Indonesian leader met with National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
The Vietnamese senior leaders praised Indonesia for actively coordinating AIPA activities in its capacity as AIPA Chair and joining efforts with other members in building an ASEAN community by 2015.
While in Hanoi, Mr Alie and his delegation called at Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi Temple of Literature) - the first national university of Vietnam, the Ho Chi Minh Museum and the stilt house relic site.
Their visit was considered another living proof of the time-honoured friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.
