Nation to boost audit ties with Myanmar

The audit sector of Viet Nam is willing to continue fostering co-operation with the audit sector of Myanmar, said National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung while receiving Myanmar's Auditor General Lunn Maung yesterday, Feb 7.

Hung stressed the important role of the audit sector in the context of the global financial crisis and the increasingly complicated nature of financial-economic relations.

Therefore, developing co-operation between audit sectors of countries in the region and around the world at large to share experience was very important, he said.

Expressing his delight at the results of recent co-operation between the two countries' audit agencies, Hung urged the two sides to continue implementing reached agreements and increase sharing of experiences the sector.

The top legislator congratulated Myanmar on successfully organising the recent general election and affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly wished to increase co-operation with the Myanmar National Assembly.

For his part, the Myanmar Auditor General said Myanmar wished to co-operate with Viet Nam in many fields, including the audit sector.

He said he hoped audit agencies of the two countries would continue promoting their co-operation and experience sharing.

On the same day, the State audit offices of Viet Nam and Myanmar held a working session to share their professional experiences and explain their functions, tasks and legal position.

Chief Auditor of the State Audit of Viet Nam Dinh Tien Dung wished that the audit agency of Myanmar would continue this exchange, especially on audits relating to the use and management of land and mineral resources.

The two sides agreed to increase the supply of information and co-operation in training and mutual support at multilateral forums.

China attaches importance to relations with Vietnam

China wants to strengthen the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership with Vietnam in a healthy and stable manner, says Foreign Ministry spokesperson Liu Weimin.

Liu made the statement at a regular Chinese Foreign Ministry press briefing in Beijing on February 7, announcing Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh’s upcoming visit to China.

China attaches importance to developing relations with Vietnam, said Liu.

He said a healthy and stable Sino-Vietnamese relationship will serve the interests of the two nations and be beneficial to peace, stability and development in the region and the rest of the world.

Foreign Minister Minh will pay an official visit to China from February 13-15 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.

During his stay, Minister Minh will hold talks with Minister Yang and meet with other Chinese leaders. Both sides will discuss measures to increase high-level exchanges, promote mutually beneficial cooperation and settle pending issues in bilateral relations. They will also touch upon issues relating to China-ASEAN relations.

President fetes provincial anniversary

 The central province of Quang Nam should focus on implementing Party initiatives and on building a pure and strong political system, said President Truong Tan Sang at a ceremony in Tam Ky City yesterday, Feb 7, to mark the 15th anniversary of the re-establishment of the province (January 1, 1997-2012).

Sang emphasised the need to promote real democracy within the Party and create conditions for the people to contribute ideas on Party building through the Fatherland Front and other social organisations.

The President said that Quang Nam, as a poor province, should bring into full play to its strengths and use its available resources to speed up economic restructuring in the direction of industrialisation and modernisation.

Together with economic development, the province needs to pay attention to improving the material and spiritual life of its people by raising the quality of educational and health care services and promoting cultural activities and sports.

According to Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Phuoc Thanh, the province has made remarkable achievements during the past 15 years with an annual GDP growth rate of 10.6 per cent in the 1997-2011 period.

From a province without any industrial zones or complexes, Quang Nam now has nine concentrated industrial zones that have attracted 81 FDI projects with a total investment capital of over US$4.7 billion.

Per-capita income has increased by 10 times from VND2.1 million ($100) in 1997 to VND22.5 million ($1,080) in 2011. The poverty rate has gradually decreased by 2.5-3 per cent per year.

On the occasion, President Sang presented the noble Ho Chi Minh Order to the provincial authorities and people in recognition of their contributions and admirable achievements.

Earlier, the President laid a wreath at the Martyrs' Cemetery in Tam Ky City.

Ha Nam urged to tap potential

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has urged northern Ha Nam Province to create breakthroughs and apply scientific and technological achievements to improve the efficiency of production, business and environmental protection.

At a working session with provincial authorities yesterday, Nhan applauded them for creating favourable conditions for businesses and asked northern Ninh Binh and Ha Nam provinces, as well as Ha Noi, to connect their cultural heritage sites into a tourism network to attract more domestic and foreign visitors.

He instructed Ha Nam and other localities to deal resolutely with the pollution of Nhue and Day Rivers to reduce environmental pollution in the province.

The provincial People's Committee proposed that the Government and relevant ministries create policies and capital for the province to implement key goals such as developing human resources and supporting agricultural production.

The province proposed that the Government approve the tourism project for Tam Chuc-Ba Sao, one of the nation's key tourism sites, and increase tourism infrastructure investment during the 2012-15 period. Provincial authorities also asked that the Government allocate capital for projects in the fields of health, education and environmental protection.
