Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has recommended that the northern mountainous province of Thai Nguyen should develop its economy on three pillars of hi-tech agriculture, tourism-service and clean agriculture.
At a working session with officials of Thai Nguyen province's Party Committee on June 30, the PM said the province has achieved comprehensive development across the fields, from economy, social affairs to national defence-security and external relations. Thai Nguyen is also a bright example in the northern mountainous region in attracting foreign investment.
However, the private sector in the province is small in scale and weak in competitive capacity, PM Phuc said, noting that the province also needs to improve its indices of market participation and enterprise development.
In particular, agro-forestry processing industry is the weak point of Thai Nguyen, as is tourism, despite the great potential of the locality, which is a former revolutionary base with many historical relics along with beautiful landscapes.
Thai Nguyen should pay attention to promoting tourism and services in order to fully tap the local advantages and potential, the PM said.
A political and economic centre of the northeastern mountainous and midland region, Thai Nguyen has six large-scale industrial parks with an occupancy rate of 65 percent. In 2017, the province posted an average growth rate of 12.75 percent, nearly double the country's average. Local per capita income reached 68 million VND (2,978.4 USD), higher than the national average. In the first six months of this year, the local economy expanded by 9.85 percent.

Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh applauded efforts and robust achievements made by the overseas Vietnamese businesses, especially the role of the Business Association of Overseas Vietnamese (BAOOV) in the national construction and protection.
Attending the BAOOV’s congress for its 2018-2023 term, Deputy PM Binh affirmed that the Party and State have paid special attention to the Vietnamese people community in foreign countries, including the overseas Vietnamese enterprises.

He asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to grant more support for the overseas Vietnamese firms in their business operation and investment.
The Government and relevant organisations will continue working to remove bottlenecks for the companies so that they can expand their business in the homeland, he noticed.
He expressed his hope that the BAOOV will expand its network and take full responsibility for defending legitimate rights and benefits of its members while serving as a catalyst to bolster cooperative ties and friendship between Vietnam and international friends.
At the event, VCCI President Vu Tien Loc asked the overseas Vietnamese businesspeople to recommend measures to the Government to improve the business climate and set up a rational economic institution for the development of the companies.

Regarding the BAOOV’s orientation for its new tenure, the association will organise various activities to enhance exchange among its members to share information, step up cooperation and seek investment opportunities. It will give priority to media work to branch out the network to join in the national development process.
Since its establishment in 2009, the association’s network has been present in many countries and territories. It has channeled focus on building a sound business climate for overseas Vietnamese firms, provided information on projects and investment opportunities inside and outside Vietnam, given consultations on regulations, administrative procures and State’s policy to its members.
